Hi guys,
I'm now ready to take jacket orders!
I've seen the samples of the sheepskin that the tannery have produced for me, and they're great. I'm really happy with them. So, I'll be ordering the first batch of skins, which I should receive in a few weeks.
Before I can go into production...
Hi guys,
After a very, very long wait, I'm soon to receive my new sheepskins! I'm expecting a sample any day now from the tannery of the skins they've produced for me, to check before they ship the first batch. So, I'll hopefully be able to take orders for jackets by the end of this month...
Hi Coffee,
Thanks for the positive comments. And also for the IHWT offer! Sounds like a superb plan, but I wouldn't want to put you under any undue stress. I don't think I could sleep knowing what gruelling testing work you were undertaking, in such high temperatures!
Cheers,
Jon
Hi guys,
Finally finished jacket #5!
I'm really happy with how it's turned out, and pleased with the multipanel pattern. Although it uses up smaller pieces of sheepskin than earlier patterns, there's a lot more work involved. Great fun though!
I'm still waiting on new sheepskins, which...
Thanks Søren!
I'm currently trying to get more sheepskin. When I have that I'll be able to make more jackets (hopefully lots more!).
The website should be up and running in the next couple of weeks - I'll let you know when it's done.
Cheers,
Jon
Hi guys,
Just thought I'd share a couple of photos of test jacket #1 as it's looking now, after 7 months of wear, being thrown in the boot of the car, left out in the rain, and generally treated badly! Well, it is a test jacket after all.
Cheers,
Jon
Hi Baron Enski,
That's something I'm hoping to do in the not too distant future.
Ideally, I'm aiming to be able to offer jackets made in a range of skins; i.e. close-cropped like pre- and early- war jackets, slightly looser which is more typical of mid-war jackets, and the shaggier sheepskin...
Hi guys,

Hi guys,
I thought I'd post a few photos of test jacket #4 being worn. As with jacket #3, apologies for the model - the photos were taken early this morning before enough coffee had been consumed!
This jacket is for sale...
Hi guys,
I was really hoping to keep this jacket for myself, but I need to sell it to be able to buy the next batch of skins. I'll be selling test jacket #3 too, which is a size 48. Both are £650 each, plus postage.
Test jacket #4 is a size 44 - here are some basic measurements of the...
Hi guys,
Just a few quick photos of test jacket 4.
This one has horizontal seams on the jacket and sleeves.
I'm pretty much out of sheepskin now, so will have to wait until I get a new batch. Then, I'll be able to hopefully start with production jackets!
Cheers,
Jon
Hi guys,
Test jacket number three is nearly finished but I have a problem with my sewing machine, so have had to down tools for a week or so until I get it fixed. I'll post photos of the jacket when it's finished though. I should be getting my labels next week too, so will sew one into the...
Certainly true Andrew. I was quoted £20,000 to make accurate Lightning zips! And that was just to make the slider, puller and stop box. I should imagine the tapes would be expensive to produce too. The zips I've had made are modelled on an original Lightning zip, but aren't 100% exact. At the...
Hi guys,
I thought it might be good to show a few comparison photos of one of my Irvin jackets next to an original. The original is dated 1943, and isn't the jacket I used to make the pattern (that jacket was from 1941), but I think it works well for a general comparison.
Also...
I think that when I'm up and running, the jackets will be priced at around £795. I can't really compete with the likes of ELC and Aero on price. What I've aimed to do is make the most accurate reproduction Irvin jacket on the market, and therefore the material cost per jacket is pretty high. At...
Hi Fly Boy,
I took apart an original 1941 jacket, which was in very poor condition, in order to make the pattern. It was the only way to make sure it was an exact pattern. The original was way beyond saving, so I didn't feel too bad about it!
Cheers,
Jon
Thanks for the positive comments!
This is the second Irvin test jacket that I've made (and the second thing ever that I've sewn together - I'd never used a sewing machine before embarking on this project!). The first jacket was where I leaned how it all fits together, and how the sewing...
Hi guys,
I've just posted this over on VLJ, but thought I'd post it here as well. I haven't been a very active member on the Fedora Lounge, but I aim to change that! Some of you will know that a few months back I made my first Repro Irvin jacket. Well, jacket number two is now finished...
Edward, I've been wearing it with Levis LVC 501s - the waistband of the jacket sits roughly where my belt is. I went out for a walk with my kids this morning, and it didn't ride up as much as I thought it would, so hopefully it will be OK.
Here are a few photos of the jacket. It's a slightly...
Hi guys,
I've picked up an Alpha Vintage Series B-15D to tide me over until I eventually get that Buzz version!
I have to say, I quite like the Vintage Series jacket. I know it's not the most authentic, but it seems well made, and should keep me warm. My only issue is that it is a little...
