Driving golden era cars in the modern era

Nice. Basically the Chevy version of my car.

My almost 17yo dd wants this post-war VINTAGE CAR!

For cars this old, it's less about the mileage than the age. First off, I wouldn't necessarily take the odo at face value as those old odos are easy to roll, and many are only five digits, so it may have been around the clock once (or twice). Unless there is documentation to support it, take the...

    B-17 "Liberty Bell" crashes, burns

Another war veteran slips through the hour glass. At least she made it home first.

    Members in Uniforms Part 2

Not members (or maybe they are) but I like the picture. 101st boys taking the guns at Maisy battery...65 years on.

    Members in Uniforms Part 2

Not a uniform, no unit insignias, just Army green for two jerks in a jeep. At the Crisbecq battery near Utah Beach.

Merlin gets the prize. Same owner for 36 years, original paint and interior (the color is called verde pallido or pale green). Yanked the engine last weekend for what is sure to be a fun-filled rebuild...

The latest acquisition. Not from the golden era, but definitely from a time and a place.

Restoration Hardware Aviator/Blackhawk series - grand or goofy?

Wikipedia says it best: The Alco Hydro-Aeroplane Company was established in 1912 by the brothers Allan and Malcolm Loughead. This company was renamed the Loughead Aircraft Manufacturing Company and located in Santa Barbara, California. In 1926, following the failure of Loughead, Allan...

    Make it DeSoto for '58

Mr. Vim, I'm thinking that if it makes you weep, then there probably isn't something more important that you need to spend your money on.

    Make it DeSoto for '58

For you mid-century guys and gals, FS on ebay is my 1958 DeSoto Firedome. A clean, native-California example of the best of Virgil Exner's "Forward Look" cars. It's the look and feel of the future...

It's delightful, it's de-lovely, it's DeSoto, and it's on eBay! The churn of the car collection continues. I'll post this one in Classifieds but thought one of you guys who follow this thread might be interested in checking it out...

Driving golden era cars in the modern era

Great car and kudos for saving it from the scrapper. You won't get much love from this forum on hot rod mods; the majority (myself included) seem to be into preserving and enjoying antediluvian technology. The problem is you can't really go modern highway speeds with those old powertrains...

1946 Packard Clipper Super curbside blog find

As usual, no respect for the elderly. The owner seems good at making enemies.

Please help me identify this car

Yep, it's a '40 with those parking lights on the fenders. It can be a bit tougher to bullseye late pre-war Packards because the company's styling evolved so incrementally compared to, say, GM. Given the bumper, I'd agree with with the model-1389 110 convertible coupe designation, as well.

    Glenn Miller Orchestra

Last time we saw the Orchestra was at the USS Hornet in Alameda. They usually play there at least once a year. The hangar deck is a great venue for seeing the Orchestra and for dancing. If you get a chance, catch the Artie Shaw Orchestra as well.

    No More Pontiacs

Pontiac has cheated death a few times in its life when management didn't know what to do with it. Finally, the weakest appendages had to be amputated so that the rest of the body can go on. A wide-track salute to the Chief.
