Well found Paddy! There's a large Tesco home store in my local town; I'll pop in there tomorrow and see if they have the shirts. Does it come in other colours?
John - I didn't think they'd be right, but they were the closest I could find. The pair I had in the early 70s were chunkier, and the weave wasn't on the diagonal. I haven't seen anything like them since then.
Fascinating Trivia Time: the Harrington jackets that John Simons sells are the...
Around my way those plaited gibsons were called box-tops. The nearest thing I could find to the shoes I wore are these
They're not plain black, but they're cheap enough that you could buy a pair and take some black dye to them (if they ship to the UK of course...)
I can't help with the...
I got an iPod Touch a couple of days ago, and it has quickly become my favourite gadget ever! I bought a 16GB model, which gives me 14.84 GB of usable space. I have 10.5 GB of music - which is 2845 songs - about 3GB of photos - 4673 - and just under 1GB of video files, including 22 music videos...
Ah, OK, well good luck with the search. It may be worth dropping a PM to nightandthecity who is something of a jazz buff so he may be familiar with one of your dads aliases.
Is there such a thing as enough music in a collection? ;)
Blimey, he seems to have been a bit of a star! What's his name? I'm not really a jazz aficionado so in all probability I won't have heard of him, but I love music trivia.
Kishtu - do you have any other albums for sale? I'd be interested in these late 50s and 60s Blue Note albums if your dad has them:
• Lou Donaldson - Calling All Cats
• Kenny Burrell - Midnight Blue
• Donald Byrd - A New Perspective
• Donald Byrd - Live At The Half Note
• Reuben...
Some googling reveals that the International Projector Corp. introduced the Super Simplex in 1928. There's a list of their models here - scroll down a bit - and a link to this photo of a 1928 model which looks quite similar to Tony's old rusty specimen:
Just to confuse matters though...
Thanks for showing them both. The finish on the black jacket looks a little rough - the cloth looks like it has bunched up on the shoulder seams.
I've been wearing mine (from NJPower) quite a lot lately as the weather here in the UK has been cool and showery - just right for a Drizzler...
Go for the cotton drill. I've got a cordovan Barnstormer with cotton drill lining, and it copes perfectly with London winters. You will melt on the tube with a blanket lining.
I wear an 8-section cap with mine - I've found good ones on eBay, at Sam Walker in Covent Garden, and (slightly...
I haven't finished it yet, so I'm grateful that you didn't say any more. I'm at the bit where Josh and Biff are with Gaspar, and Big Furry has just appeared.
It would be great to have one last meal there, but I don't have any free evenings this week, and I imagine it will be mobbed on Saturday. It will be missed.
I'll be getting a Touch, even though my 3rd generation 40GB iPod still works perfectly. The Touch has all the features of the iPhone that I'll actually find useful: music, video, photos, wifi web browsing, calendar, address book. I have just over 25GB of music on my Mac so the 16GB Touch will...
I finished the Elvis Cole novels and started on the pile of Hard Case titles, but got waylaid by Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore. Very funny indeed.
I think the 3rd generation iPods from 2003/2004 - the ones with the row of buttons above the scroll wheel - were the last ones to have the charger included in the box.
