Maybe only 10% were actively involved in France during the war, but you shouldn't forget the Free French troops who escaped to Britain and North Africa. By August 1940 there were 7000 Free French troops organised in Britain, with a further 2500 in French Equatorial Africa, who were reinforced by...
I've had that on my wants list for a while but I've read Together We Stand by James Holland which deals with the North African Campaign between May 1942 and May 1943; and Hitler's Mediterranean Gamble by Douglas Porch, which deals with the entire Med Campaign from 1940 up to the fall of Italy...
Yep, everybody did it. The Americans didn't want to seem unfashionable, so the first time they met the German Army in force during WWII - at the Kasserine Pass in Tunisia - they joined in and raised their hands too. What fun they all must have had!
Because of course all Brits feel exactly the same as that drunk that had a pop at CharlesB. We're just a bunch of ingrates who don't realise how lucky we are not to be speaking German.
Not being a smoker I don't know how good it is, but G. Smith & Sons in Charing Cross Road could be worth a visit.

Did you try John Simon's yet for Bill's Khakis? And Gap in the UK occasionally have high waisted, loose fit, straight leg khakis in a fairly heavy cotton for £34 which are quite good.
J. Simon's in Covent Garden sometimes have some in stock. Give them a call first to check, but the shop is worth a visit anyway.

I think you'll have to feel a few caps so that you'll be able to judge good from bad, but I would assume that the cashmere in a cap would be somewhat heavier and stiffer than that in a scarf. I'd look for a good tight weave in the wool; good construction with straight, clean seams; good pattern...
At £139 I think you'll be paying for the name, rather than the quality. It seems ridiculously overpriced, even for cashmere. There are a couple of Scottish shops at the south end of Regent Street, just before it meets Picadilly Circus, which usually have a good range of caps in cashmere and...
For Brit Loungers interested in this sort of thing, there's an excellent 4-CD compilation called Latin Jazz Essentials, available for just £6.99 from play.com. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be available in the US.
I think you have misread the Sky report. The attack took place in December last year, for which Gordon was arrested in January of this year. At the subsequent trial for the December assault - some time between January and now - he was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm. He was not...
Excellent price, and well found. I'll have to make a trip to my nearest H&M.
As an aside my teenage daughter hates my 8-piece caps, but loves H&M. I wonder how she'll react when she finds out I'm suddenly fashionable.
According to other news reports the attacker is a paranoid schizophrenic.

It's a tricky one. Do we lock up the mentally ill, in case they turn violent? Or...
Can you still see the Edit button after your first post in the thread? If so I think clicking on that will allow you to change the title.
O/T, but the blues festival was incredible. The city council subsidised it very heavily, so tickets were very cheap - I think I paid between £15 and £20 /...
I visited Utrecht a couple of times for an annual blues festival - the Blues Estafette, sadly no longer running - and it's a very nice little city. The area around the railway station is not very inspiring - but railway stations rarely are - but the old part of town is exactly what you'd expect...
