Beeps. In 1927. What made them?

Victor Record no. 20606 usually contained 2 sides of the William Tell Overture by the Victor Symphony. However, this gent picked up a copy with what he calls a "test frequency test pressing" on side B. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_84oQWgyvcQ It got me wondering what sort of apparatus...

New GW Cooper in Steer (drool worthy)

And there's no good mid-price option any more. That slice of the market has gone the way of the DeSoto and the Pontiac. What you get when you pay a little more is not quality, but the same cheap stuff with gimmicks and geegaws added to appeal to the consumerist. It doesn't have to be that way...

    M422a Interior Finish

I hear Aero's 1938 and '40 A-2s are pretty slim cut. And I believe they will make either in seal. You would have a pretty rare repro with either, as they aren't that popular, especially in the states.

    M422a Interior Finish

I would guess unique tailoring is ok unless it's being done on a recognized milspec item. That makes it neither fish nor fowl.

    Mystery NBC Song

Kenny Baker? My old buddy RatPfink66 just posted to the Tube as follows: I trust the Pfink's ears as I trust my own, and I think we just may have our man. Listen to Kenny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4g7xXUGAKc

    M422a Interior Finish

The decisive factor would be your build. Unless you are very lean, a slim cut can become uncomfortably tight when you layer. A warm cloth liner without too much thickness would remove the need for one layer. Sweaters are a particular issue as they almost always blouse at the waist, just where a...

    Why!!!! Hipsters!!! Why!!!!!

The whole idea is to attract admiration while making it difficult to act on it.

    Why!!!! Hipsters!!! Why!!!!!

For the women, they're great at discouraging eye contact from strange men, which is very important in New York.

Looks like the old Battle Cattle is back under a new name...or number.

    What are you listening to?

I had a scary thought...maybe they think it sounds better than swing music. It has the trappings of the era without that corny hot-cha rhythm they can't dance to.

Makin' Macon, or How I Built A 20 Foot Airship With No Help From My Cat

The great zeppelins of the 1920s and 30s were fragile giants, vulnerable to weather, explosions, and in the case of Jack Clemens' model of USS Macon, house pets. Its nearly complete balsawood frame was smashed when his cat jumped off a high shelf in the garage and landed on it. 2 attempts...

    Mouton collars on A2 jackets

Cool...it really comes in handy in the cold wet, especially with the mouton. But you have tradition on your side. At least one Navy squadron CO ordered that zippers on G-1s never be closed past 3/4 way up.

    Why!!!! Hipsters!!! Why!!!!!

Tom, how close to Chicago are you? That's the kind of real estate @sshattery one associates with only the very biggest cities. Someone from Des Moines, Mpls, etc, would more likely move the property if they couldn't keep it up. But someone used to tight markets and speculation would just hold...

    Mouton collars on A2 jackets

Ah yes - that's the other thing you can't close up unless you tailor a bigger neckline. Yes, it could be said that they don't work. With 3" difference in the sizes to fit the same neck, you'd need a very slack leather collar to be convertible to mouton.

    Mouton collars on A2 jackets

Be advised - if you want your collar to latch closed after it's moutoned, you'll have to have it made much bigger. I made some measurements myself and had to add about 3".

Anybody receive a new Bill Kelso jacket recently?

The makers could always hot-water shrink the hide after finishing and before construction, adding x% onto the price for the extra hide required. But beating them up and adding color variation almost always looks phoney unless it comes from time and wear.

Anybody receive a new Bill Kelso jacket recently?

Am I crazy not to like antiquing even when well done? I'd rather just break the thing in myself. If it takes 10 years because I have too many jackets, so be it. This does not mean I approve of plasticcy-painty finishes or iron-horse that never will break in.
