I love this thread--old books are so beautiful.
The oldest book I have is a small pocket bible carried by one of my ancestors in the Civil War and kept with him during his imprisonment at Andersonville. After the war he gave the book to his sister, who gave it to her sister all of which is...
I collect or have collected so many things--currently novelty print 1940's dresses are rather an obsession. I have a great silk scarf from the 1920's -- I'll try to post a picture.
Other things I have collected/do collect include; Old movie magazines, postcards, music sheets, chintz china...
I'm pretty sure that leopard print coat has a hood too--my version would anyhow!
A few more images.
Looking through my "to be copied" folder I've realized I should change my moniker from "I'm Old Fashioned" to "I Like Bows". So many images of dresses with bows I've got...
I'm watching part 2 right now (missed part 1; will watch it later tonight). The interviews are really strong (that bomber pilot particularly).
Very strange (but great) to see so much color footage from this era. Also, on a purely superficial note, I keep ogling all those gorgeous flight...
Love it!
I'm climbing on my soapbox here for a moment, but who do we have like this anymore? Talent just seeps out of their pores, they're at the top of their game and most of all the joy they express--you can tell they're just having the best time. So few modern performers evidence that...
The visual with the Bastille Day balloons cracked me up--the boyfriend's disappointment that he wasn't the first. Several good one-liners too like "are these for children?!".
It is a really hard film to try and explain isn't it? Completely different genre but I felt that way with Tristam...
I saw this about a month ago and forgot to post about it. This was one of those movies my friends wanted to see more than I did but I ended up really, really loving it. Nice to see Emma playing against type and Maggie Gyllenhaal is always good. Will Ferrell was a pleasant surprise too, wasn't...
I love them all but these are especially great. That first picture looks so vintage at first glance I thought it was modern posing as vintage.
I don't knit but I've always wanted to learn. I inherited a huge amount of knitting equpiment from a friend (needles of every size, gauges, etc.)...
That is cute with a capital C! Reminds me of those 1950's patterns except this is better--you don' t have to make it! Please post pictures of you in it when it arrives.
One of my all time favorites too, practically every scene is a classic. She's a really minor character but I love Roger's secretary; "Here's a little something for your sweet tooth baby, and all your other sweet parts too" he dictates and she gives him this great look.
I saw 2 Days in Paris...
