Unfortunately all my typewriters are in my parent's house, they were just too heavy for me to bring to my apartment.
My favorite (and first) typewriter is a Royal. I'm not sure of the date, but it looks like its from the '40s. It's incredibly heavy and well-built. Functions just perfectly...
Fancy or Unusual Seamed Stockings
Lately I've been browsing Ebay for vintage seamed stockings, and I've come across some pretty unusual pairs.
One pair was a pretty peach color, seamed, with small rhinestones above the ankles. Another two pairs were nude, with either a dark red or dark...
I just lost this gorgeous rayon dress:
I feel like an idiot too because it went for only $29! Then again, it was a little big in the bust. But I just adore the neckline!
For the ladies (just a few!):
- proper foundation garment (such as a girdle)
- stockings (seamed, especially, and with attention paid to color and heel type)
- gloves, hats
- eyebrow shape
How cute! I went to a Christmas party with my parents this past Christmas and the couple hosting it was gay, as were a lot of the people at the party. I've never recieved so many compliments on my vintage clothing in my life! It was kind of overwhelming! ;)
I actually just did that with my hair by accident! I have bangs that are down to my eyebrows though, so I don't know how one would achieve it without bangs. Basically I was curling my bangs under with a curling iron for the sort of bumper bangs look that I haven't done in ages. Ended up not...
Best: "Hey, I'm not trying to say you is nasty or anything, but you look like Dita Von Teese! You're like Greta Garbo or Betty Grable or somethin'..." He may have named 3 totally different looking people, but considering I was dressed in my everyday clothes and this regular joe got the look was...
My "Signature Dish" (at least, I've been making/eating it every night for the past week and a half) is a baby greens salad with candied & toasted walnuts (I make them myself), goat cheese and raspberry vinagrette. It's the closest I've come to cooking a successful meal yet!
Well, my roommate and I get People and Glamour because the old tenants never changed their subscription. Trashy mags, of course, but fun to read.
I also read:
- Bitch (a feminist pop culture magazine)
- Bust (another feminist mag)
- Readymade (all about fun, kitschy DIY projects)
-...
I love when a man can cook, because I can't cook at all! I sure can bake, but I scared of cooking with raw meat (I'm afraid I won't cook it right), and I get scared when I'm not cooking out of a box. Cooking is really overwhelming!
Luckily, I've got a boyfriend who can cook very well, and...
The past two months have been out of control on Ebay for me. These two ended this weekend:
vintage high-waisted Wranglers (hopefully they fit!)
some nice, FF, vintage seamed stockings. For some reason new stockings just never come as sheer or in as light colors as vintage ones...
For me, music is usually a social or interactive thing. Yup, I'm one of those nerds you see driving with the windows rolled up singing their heart out to whatever the listen to!
I love driving or walking to music, or dancing to it, kissing to it, listening to it with friends, falling asleep...
My boyfriend, who luckily for me, dressed vintage/greaser when I met him, went through a major fashion slump last summer, so I know how you ladies feel!
He would wear long Dickies shorts, band t-shirts that were stretched out and faded (I don't mind the band shirts as long as they look nice...
I just cannot imagine a world without music. Along the lines of what Jack Scorpion said, without music, I wonder how the visual arts would have developed. Though not directly related, I cannot imagine how people could come to express themselves through painting, sculpture, photography, etc...
I LOVE that Stop Staring coat from Daddyos. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), the weather has been changing so quickly in LA that I can suffer through the cold, since chances are the next day it will be blazing hot.
Does anyone know of any vintage-inspired coats...
I'm only 19, and don't plan on having kids for a good while, but my boyfriend and I talk about what sort of family we would like in the future if we end up marrying.
I'm an only child, and he's the baby of his family, with two older sisters. At most I've only wanted two children (population...
Well, with age and experience people move from subculture to subculture, so it's not unusual to me that psychobillies had skin tattoos. Unfortunate, but not surprising.
Likewise, rockabilly/vintage is supposed to be the "punk rock retirement plan", so I guess I'm retiring a lot earlier than...
lol I know the guy who did that from another board. He actually did an amazing remix of a Mad Sin song that is going to be on their next album. He's pretty good at mash-ups!
