I had a literal desert island OTR, well, a tropical island OTR. When I did my yoga teacher training in the Bahamas (yeah, I know - sounds glamorous but believe me it wasn't!), I had an episode of Saturday Night Swing Club with Bunny Berigan, which I listened to every night to get the constant...
A rethink...
Originally my vote was a definite thumbs down for the '80's, but reflecting what Burton says, just looking around at the grey/black/khaki formless shapeless no effort cheap-looking clothing of the masses these days, well, I may have to vote for now...No to sportswear/pj's for...
My take on "mottled" would be pretty much what you said: variance in colour, blotching. Subtle variation of colour, like something has been stippled, with no clear demarcation. Distressed, no, not really. Variegated, more like.
Hope this helps!
How stunning you are! Such a gorgeously composed photo - wow!
Etsy and Ebay are definitely my primary sources of "finds", Etsy particularly for '30's/'40's patterns since I've just begun to sew. I've found some really lovely dresses from that same period, some for very reasonable prices...
Sorry to lower the tone further...
My grandfather-in-law used to say (translated from the French), "It's better to break wind in company then to die all alone". Which does beg one or two questions.
I don't know whether it's a traditional French saying or, well, just him!
My impression that I took away from the clip was that the fedora was a more structured/formal, higher/more angular hat than the trilby, with a wider brim. But like I said, I know nothing of men's clothes so I'll let you gents duke it out!
I've sent this link to my other half (40-something going on 16, in the sartorial sense) because hope springs eternal! Great site; I watched quite a few of the videos, which were so well done. I've never shown any interest in men's clothes before (being a girl), but I think the presenter's...
It was called "Style on Trial", and I've still got the 40's episode saved on my V+! (With Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, who normally gets right under my skin, championing the 40's alongside Immodesty Blaize!)
I think the only thing that I found unsatisfactory about it was that they didn't do the...
Two minds with but a single thought
I have been busy trawling online to find that very same, fake-fur-topped ankle boots, the cuffed kind, not too high a heel...the closest (and of course, the dearest) being La Canadienne Evitta, but still not precisely IT...frustration!
I did find a...
Thank you so much Swingkitten - it's good to know that it is possible without seeing my favourite dress in component parts! I just have to wait a bit 'til my sewing skills catch up to my ambitiousness! Sites bookmarked for that day!
I've just got a sewing machine for Christmas and am a complete newcomer to sewing. I did a search and could not find an answer to this (possibly idiotic) query: Is is possible to make a repro or pattern of an existing garment without undoing said garment? And if so, how straightforward would...
There's a Future in It
Hi Marc Chevalier,
Unfortunately I was not able to PM you about this, I think because I've recently joined and haven't the required number of posts.
I did a little web search to jog my memory, and this short was included in a documentary shown over here called...
