What is Your Favorite Classic Portrait?

Being a Jimmy fan, I'd have to go for this, it's different to his classic slightly gawky studio shots. But a fantastic portrait nonetheless....

    Advice Please

I always look old fashioned:( apparently....my boss says I look like an old Edwardian soap advert (she says she means it nicely) and when I go to work with soft side sweeps in the old ladies that come in are always so impressed and tell me how they wish it would come back into fashion...

    Vintage Knitting!

I have several original knits in good sizes plus some that a friend re-sized from original patterns. There is no change in shape or loss of original styling.I'm not sure why there would be really? I am a costumier by trade and although sewing is my thing, this is no different really. K

    Vintage Knitting!

Can I just clarify what is actually being said here? That re-sized garments don't look authentic or that original patterns in a 36"+ don't look authentic? K

For anyone with a 'modern figure' dear me...I am scanning and putting a pattern online tomorrow. It is four sweaters from 1944 in a 38" bust upwards...Sweater girls only need apply.

    Low Income and Staying Healthy?

A bit of a fallacy, really. Women weren't on average healthier, I get a bit galled when I hear this repeated. Women were often run down, anaemic and usually with severe gynae probs after childbirth. Women often had prolapsed wombs, severe tears and ruptures. Those who could afford it could be...

    Vintage Christmas?

We're going to the Glenn Miller memorial Ball here in the UK, it takes place at the airfield where he flew from. That's on Saturday and then my tree will go up later this week. All vintage baubles (apart from the ones my son made or that have some sappy sentiment attached..:) I love getting...

    The Pinup Thread

Thats baloney! Her other half is a serviceman and I don't recall anyone saying that to Vargas or the other classic pin up artists whose work inspired the fighting men of WW2. It made them remember what they were fighting for!

    RAF aviator scarf ?

Try ebay for a 'tootal' scarf. The RAF didn't have an issue scarf as such (other than a blue itchy wool one!) But it was a tarty thing designed to cut down neck chafing to use a nice civilian scarf. Some pilots and aircrew used their girlfriends silk stockings! They turn up all the time on...

    Ideal bodies for the eras

I've been collecting since the age of 14 (when I was a flat chested skinny thing) but have a ton of clothing in all sizes and that goes from feedsack dresses to ermine trimmed evening wear and a couture label or two! I like the Rago ones, a devil to get into lol and I have a few vintage ones...
