Hmmm, will have to check it out. I don't wear fur but maybe they have some nice accessories. I might go on Sunday. I rarely find any 30s garments in Perth so I make them from old patterns or get them online. I'm going to go to Antique and Collectables fair in August. That used to be so huuuuuge...
As I'm not out to make a buck off postage, with normal post they would be around 10 to 12$ to ship to the UK or US, could be less. I'll post the ones i want to sell when they arrive :)
I loved Memory Lane when it was in Bon Marche. It was amazing but I was a student then and never had any money to buy all the 30s dresses and shoes I saw there back then :( There used to be a good shop in Wesley Arcade called 'Divine'. Got a few things there but 'Mums' in Inglewood, man, I...
You need to add at least 2 more categories. I can't answer this as I wear a mix of vintage clothing and new stuff that I buy or make. I have a lot of original vintage but I can't wear it all the time because want it to last! You'll find a lot people here do the same. You need
- Good mix of both...
These videos about make-do-and-mend in WW2 are awesome! There are so many hat making ones!! And there are earlier vids too. What a find!!!
Ladies hat from mans fedora - I love this one! So easy and the ironing the felt with a damp cloth on the block...l never knew...
Fantastic!! The scarf lapel is awesome! I want one! I've never seen a pattern to make one anywhere. I wonder if there is a wartime make do and med book that has those items in it?
The same dress after 7 days would be too stinky for me though! I guess sweats pads were put to good use!
Miss Hannah, I'll let you know which one's I'm going to sell when they arrive. I like the coolie one too and have a 30s one that is very similar in blue, so I may keep it, but the wedding ring one is yours! I'll list them properly and take better pics and make sure any flaws etc are noted for...
I actually bought quite a few 40s jackets and 30s sewing patterns when I was in Auckland in 2002 for a swing dance camp. The vintage store I got them in was gone the next time I passed through in 2005. It was in alittle arcade and was so full of things it was amazing!
Aww thanks. :) I can keep and eye out for the curved longer ones for you if you like. I'm on Ebay and Etsy all the time. I'll let you know if any come up :)
I got this lot of 15 hats on Esty for not a bad price. I'm going to keep the 30s and 40s ones and sell the rest. So stay tunes if you like 50s hats gals!!
I certainly have no mis-givings about how difficult the 20s, 30s and 40s were for many people. I would love to go back for a visit now and again (maybe buy lots of clothes to bring back and go to all the jazz clubs I've drooled over forever) but I would not want to stay. I like modern technology...
We used to be allowed to small small portions too when I was a child. Very watered down of course. With the amount of water I drink now though...if I'd be whacked all the time if I had to go back to those times!! No wonder people died young...their livers would have been shot!
Yep, the 1940's House was great too.
These are less intense and a lot more fun a they are only a week and they still get to use some modern conveniences. But yes, the food and drinking habits of past eras are fascinating. The fact that people drank beer with their meals a lot in many eras...
This series begins in Medi-evil times and goes through to the 80s and ep is one hour. Series is called 'The Supersizers". They basically live in a time period for a week eating ONLY the food and drink from that time, wearing the clothing and living in a home from that period. and doing some of...
