    Appropriateness of Khaki

I think I like this interpretation better, especially for when I am instructed to paint walls "neutral tones, like toast or khaki." lol A good belt in a tone that flatters the boots is a must. And you need a hat.

    Clothing color combinations

Crazydaisy, it may just be the light in the shot, or I may just be mad as a hatter, but have you tried it with a champagne or bronze slip? A brown with a good metallic sheen to it won't be too somber, and I think it might make it read as deeper, killing the orange a little and giving your skin...

    Best doggie names ever

I quite like the idea of getting a Doberman (a breed I love) and naming Gable, as in Clark, because they look like him to me, or a Rottie and calling him Bogart, but my guy seems to think that the >20 lb. range is the weight-range he wants in a dog, no Rottweilers or Dobermans need apply. [huh]...

    Appropriateness of Khaki

I love khaki but admit to rather loving it more matched against another colour (nothing necessarily bright, even loden or dove or slate works) because I am nervous about matching or not-matching different shades of khaki together in the same outfit. I like one khaki component whether it's pants...

    Toy Train Help?

Many MANY trainsets have hollow smoke-stacks in the engine and you pop a teeny capsule in them that smokes. You can put the same capsule in the chimneys of some Christmas village houses. They don't have to be terribly expensive (though the trains ARE more expensive than the wee little...

    Alcohol as a hair tonic?

Would not advise. Rubbing alcohol is very harsh and drying. I would be leery of straight rubbing alcohol making your hair not particularly shiny but very very fragile and prone to split ends at best and shearing off at worst.

Hey LizzieMaine/Got any old Corning Pyrex? 25 years?

We've had some burst Pyrex and my poor kid brother was almost badly hurt and WAS scared to death once, years ago, when he went to check a Pyrex roasting pan in the oven and he did something (maybe poured juice in, I don't recall) and glass bits shot across the ENTIRE kitchen and all around him...

    Are you a Military wife?

My fiance was almost a military husband (I was in the Navy) when I wrecked my foot and got turfed out. It's really hard on both sides and all the civilian spouses here who have to hang in there while their honey is away have my support and respect. I think in some ways its harder because you...

    end of the month food

Heh. It is good stuff. I used to put it in scrambled eggs all the time but I think the best is on seeded rye with dill pickles. But those weren't my no-money sammiches! My no-money sammiches were things like hardboiled egg whites with mayo and brown mustard and the same sour pickles. Yummy...

    end of the month food

Once got brutal food poisoning from clearance-rack steak. My mom bought it because it was marked way, way down. She cooked it well-done (my mom cooks everything well done, she's lucky I love her...) I thought I was dying and I'm not even joking. If it had been rare, who knows, it might have been...

Joan Collins says British women have given up trying to look good.

Depends where in the US you go, too. For good and for bad. Gotta say the difference between regions always jumps out at me. Just the ratio of black clothes to pink! Size of hair. What colour are business suits (for women - we have more of a range of palette to be noted then the menfolk) allowed...

Ladies.. HELP!!! My 16 yr old daughter wants to attend formal in WWII style!!!

I think a fluffy, tea-length halter-top repro vintage-style dress like Unique Vintage has a ton of could be very cute, especially with a crinoline under it. Is she tall? I love tea-length skirts for this look. With a wrap/bolero/capelet, and little gloves, it could look great. I would keep...

Joan Collins says British women have given up trying to look good.

I think of mutton dressed as lamb being more those forty year old women who wear lime green tubetops like some sort of Antique Eleventh-Grader, rather than older women who merely dye their hair and dress as elegant/glam WOMEN as opposed to teenage girls.

I've eaten red clover cooked like spinach...it's not as good as spinach. I'm rather fond of canned mackerel, actually. It's oily, true, but a little less strong-smelling than sardines and good on toast.

Heh, cheers, Hadley. I hope when we're eighty we can drink tea and get facials together! lol

Oh I just remembered another one my mother eats sometimes; cottage cheese on cold canned beets. My grandmother was more of a purist and went with the sour cream.

Joan Collins says British women have given up trying to look good.

So many of the complaints I've heard (other places, not picking on anyone here) would have some merit if she was 40 and just fond of laying on the foundation with a caulk-gun, but really, seriously, she's over seventy. So many women seem to think they HAVE to set aside glamour or caring...

Joan Collins says British women have given up trying to look good.

I think she's a fine looking woman for her age. I wouldn't make all the same choices if I was working with that, I don't think, but she doesn't look like she tripped out of bed and fell through a briarpatch in her pajama pants, which is more than you can say for a lot of girls nowadays. And...

    end of the month food

I like turkey ham fried in a pan with scrambled eggs. Have no idea if it tastes like real ham though I just like how it tastes for itself. I don't like the smell of bacon or any of its imitations so while my family eats turkey bacon, I refuse. Sometimes violently! lol
