Golden Era: Everday Life in Bygone Era

Great idea. Lawman, may I add to your request, one of my own: I'd be particularly interested in the "big picture" of how people spent their time in the golden era. If anyone who has relatives or friends who remember it well enough to, say, recall how the average adult weekday went in terms of...

Fedora Art (Paintings..etc depicting a vintage Fedoraesque scene)

Yes, that's where I recognized it :) This is one of my Vettriano faves, being a big fan of swing: got it on a 2006 calendar - tried to track it down to buy it as a print but couldn't find it ANYWHERE on the web or otherwise; apparently it must have been a calendar exclusive. Wish I...

    new vintagey furniture

I'm not familiar with those but what I use as a measure is, whatever those old movies show the Philip Marlowe Private Eye types as having in their house, that's fine with me. Especially that fixture on the couch there :D Bedroom? crummy student furniture and utility shelving / records &...

    Show us your view!

Took these pics yesterday, front & back, our first "almost-a-snow" of the season, increasingly rare in these parts (found myself thinking, "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...")

    new vintagey furniture

Yeah, see that's the thing, for anyone not familiar with the golden era, the whole look can be "femmy". Not to offend anyone, but unless that's what you're going for, it's really a tricky thing... trying to make a place vintage/classy looking, but figuring where to draw the line lol I'd assume...

    new vintagey furniture

Buy the book (common / cheap on eBay), follow the formulas, pick up any pieces you might be missing at your local used or "freight-damaged furniture" type shop for pennies on the dollar (a friend got an awesome wood bed for $50), and theres always tons of used furniture w/ pics for local pickup...

What's good enough for Lady Day & Lionel Hampton (MP3, 1949) is good enough for me.

. . . . A favorite: (just need a Lauren Bacall to go in it) You could make the round & coffee tables yourself if you can work with plaster/concrete. Hope this is useful - C H

Same here, tough going even with the book, I must be missing some genes or something... House & garden's complete guide to interior decoration, 1942 (best idea - draw crosshairs through middle of each room & balance/symmetry of layout on either side including walls) . . . . . . ...

    78 revolutions per minute

No sweat ;) BTW I've collected 78s off & on from when my Granddad started me at age 8, that's how I got interested in everything 1930s-40s... I last counted when I was in school, it was 5000+ discs... I was on a 1927-1934 jazz & hot dance kick for a few years, that's all I hunted, Tons...

Don't "be that guy", Fletch. You were just having a bad day. :eusa_doh: "Elitists" have always seemed unexplainably proud of themselves trashing Record Finders because RF caters mostly to people who like popular music of the 78 era (Miller, Dorsey, Goodman, Shaw, Ellington...), like me. I...

Reccomended 78 source Reccomended 78 source: (average price $2.50 each VG+, $5 each EX, for swing bands) http://www.recordfinders.com/ Their website is terribly archaic. Click "Set Price Items" at top right, read instructions on that link, search 10" 78 singles by LASTNAME FIRSTNAME all...

:eusa_clap lol :eusa_clap You could make it say one of six randomly selected phrases in a booming voice when someone sits down: "Have a seat, friend!", and "So, how's the weather out there?!" (prefer to think I've got a while before having to think seriously about this) "Don't be a...
