Took ballroom dancing in college (foxtrot / swing / waltz / chacha basics), loved it, got voted "favorite to dance with" by peers on last day :o , haven't danced since.
Definitely want to get more into swing if I can only find time, hookup with others via http://www.meetup.com/ , etc - not a...
This is a long shot - question:
Mom tells me of a favorite memory of around the 1945-1947 time period, all the neighborhood kids would converge at twilight at 8pm to one kid's house whose parents would pull the floor model radio onto the porch & play a radio program (weekly? Nightly?)...
Never liked the genre except for a few by one guy - ebay search string "(larry vincent, pearl trio)" (from within "records") - a Cary Grant impersonator in voice and timing (most just dumb, but a few hilarious without being overly crude, look for "I Used To Work In Chicago", you can almost hear...
Of course the Lounge helps those of us not in "vintage localities" get in touch with like minds :) but in general, an interesting/hopeful article:

Speakin' of which, backslid recently & got these on my doorstep last week, among others...

(Good thing I've stayed off the lounge recently; A Miller vs Goodman debate made me start listening to Miller clips online, then go buy about a dozen of the somewhat more obscure Millers, along...
Great find Major Danger! You've hit the "sweet spot" of the golden era with those. :D
Agreed 100%, that's the way to go.
- they're easy to find,
- sound Great for 78s w/ tube-sounding rich bass,
- are cheap (about 5 years ago round here, there was a huge "Califone wall" like bricks, $1...

MP3: "Sunny Side of the Street" - Tommy Dorsey
Grab your coat, Don't forget your hat
But leave your worries, leave them on the doorstep,
Life's sweet... just direct your feet,
To the sunny, sunny side of the street
Hop-bop-a-doodle-zat, pitter-pat
You know that happy tune is my...
Take "those were the days" lyrics and set them to a classic golden era instrumental (which may or may not already have other lyrics) like Miller's "in the mood", Shaw's "begin the beguine", Dorsey's "opus #1".
Anyone up to the challenge? we want to hear your MP3 efforts lol
Swing High...
Best Buy - I don't go there unless I already know what I want and know they have, or will match, the best price.
New Technology - having worked developing some of it for last 5 years, I'm pretty cynical about it. There's a lot of stuff they put in there advertised as "great new technology" ...
Real Henry, that's great, the world can never have enough swing bands.
Didn't you used to have to hit those every once in a while to re-fluff the carbon granules when they got packed down to keep it working? lol gotta love the elegantly simple technology though; if I remember right, they were...
GAAAH! Can't decide which one's freakin' me out more!
That one belongs here... http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=8046&highlight=sinister
Interesting pics Sefton, thanks for sharing. Unsettling to know this was the society of people about to bomb Pearl Harbor...
Oh boy, I was hoping maybe no one else would notice that first part of Phil's post... :(
:offtopic:
Phil, Rosie,
I think that was perhaps just a poorly-thought-out way of expressing frustration over the hideous aping by mainstream middle-class suburbia of the tragic circumstances of...
