Hellboy has some noirish elements and various issues are set in a WWII era. Obviously we are dealing with a fantasy genre, but it has a retro vibe and the dialogue is quite good.
I concur. "You give respect to get respect" is a common saying by inmates. Ironically, inmates will keep you honest in your dealings with them. If they perceive you as being seemingly unfair to a particular person or inconsistent in your application of rules they will call you out on it...
Thank you for all of the great info. Being born and raised in Michigan in the 50's/60's I grew up with these coats. They wore like iron. I have to say, though, I very seldom saw one without a game pouch built into the back and loops for shotgun shells built into the pockets. But then, I was...
Very nice; I especially like the unzippered slash pockets. Zippers are fine if you're carrying something in them, but in a jacket like this you usually don't and it's just something else to go wrong. The worst are the "flap and a snap" pockets; if you do put your hands into them for warmth the...
That is my experience also, however I work in Correctioins. We always use last names in the presence of inmates; when it's just the rank and file we go with first or last as the mood strikes. Administrative are always addressed by title (Sheriff, Undersheriff, Lieutenant) or Sir/Mame (I hate...
Donna Reed was quite a looker. I love her scene in "It's A Wonderful Life" where she and James Stuart are both trying to talk on the phone at the same time.
Speaking of which, no Stuart for the gals? He may not have been the most handsome of men, but he cleaned up pretty well and had some...
Three other phrases I haven't heard lately are:
"I'll darken his daylights!" (Give him black eyes.)
"He beat the living tar out of that guy." (Administered a good thrashing.)
"Since Hector was a pup." (A long time ago.)
I miss the old terms "Yardbird" or "Jailbird" or even "Convict". Now everyone's an inmate.
I don't miss "Turnkey" (guard) or "Matron" (female guard). I always found them derogatory to a profession - like "Sawbones" for a surgeon or "Greasemonkey" for a mechanic.
As you might have guessed, I...
Conan the Barbarian, when asked what the best things in life are:
"To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women."
Yes, the box does show it as 7 3/8, but it must have been labeled incorrectly or the hat was swapped out for the same model of a different size. Not pictured is the 7 5/8 tag. It is a nice hat and I really like the way it looks, but I do like to wear my hats and I'm unsure how much the shape...
Purchased a nice Champ Rugged Man in a greenish/grey color in excellent shape. Not cheap, but reasonable as I was the only bidder. Listed as size 7 3/8 (my size) arrived labeled as 7 5/8 (NOT my size). I contacted the seller, our (edited) correspondence follows, most recent on top:
Dear...
Hi all,
New to the Forum. I just picked up a Kangol Tweed Player in Aspen Brown. I'm 55 years old so I don't care for anything overly trendy, but I'm tired of ball caps. This hat seems to strike a nice balance between contemporary and classic; Kid Rock or Frank Si . . .( hmmm) . . . Peter...
