Congratulations to your wonderful purchases, ladies!
Miss G, that poodle scarf is adorable! (It would go quite well with my poodle coat, hah ;) )
I understand your passion for coats, I must hold myself back all the time, telling myself that I have no space for a new cupboard! Scarves and...
I think this fits in here:
If you like the arts and style of Art Nouveau / Turn of the Century,
you should have a look at the archive of the Jugend magazine.
It has a full load of illustrations, graphics, advertisements amm (only very few photos).
Even if you don't know one bit of...
That trick with playing a movie usually helps me, too.
But I'm getting more and more depressed about my hair. I had the feeling I finally managed to get an okay look, but now it's worse than ever. I don't know if the reason is
- my new place having hard water
- my new place having air...
If that isn't an argument against overdrinking!?
My cousins and I once cut my other cousins - then butt long - hair short. But we were, like 8 years old. But then: the grown-ups were partying at the time, probably drinking, and didn't notice. So it's still an argument against overdrinking :D
Getting a perm (early 90s) wasn't my best idea.
My worst:
When I was ten or eleven years old, I tried to bleach my hair at home (my best friend hat wonderful, naturally blonde hair while mine was brown).
As if it wasn't enough that I wore one of the worst haircuts at the time - now I looked...
I was looking for a German how-to to take to my hairdresser practically forever. Now, just got two hair and beauty books from the fifties.
"The work of the hairdresser" is a book for professionals which means a lot of it is neither understandable nor helpful to me. But some of it is very...
I totally understand your confusion. My heart is with the 50s, but then I prefer 40s hair and shoes, and 60s stuff is easier to get and easier to wear. Plus, I don't despise new retro-look pieces as well. So I try to mix, stick to some classic pieces that could do in all decades and combine them...
Priscilla, what a great decision! At first sight, you could think that's three different persons in the pictures. All of them wonderful, but I prefer the versions in the middle and in the right :)
Thanks Fortworthgal, both for your compliment and for telling me where to find that thread.
Good to know I didn't only dream that ;) but it really exists.
It's great that you've gotten so far concerning what's "you"! I'm not even halfway there, but then I just started wearing vintage a little more than a year ago. I have a few things in my wardrobe that won't stay there long. But I'm not really sure which :D Who knows when I'll be able to separate...
MissG, you'll look fabulous in those, as usual!
You got sort of a unique style, I just opened the thread and started looking for new stuff from the bottom - when I saw your pix, I knew it was your posting before I even saw your name or avatar, can you believe it.
So we have something in common.
I'm just not sure if it is that we think of each other as crazy persons or if we both in fact are crazy persons. Probably both :D
MissLaurieMarie, love that brooch with the lady and dog, so much fun!
Nomanolo, I'm in love with that turquoise sweater! A spirit lifter on rainy days!
The red skirt's a find, too. Can't go wrong with pencil skirts and can't have enough of them.
Jo Larke, that's the method I used so far. But it only helps for a while and I don't think it looks so nice. Plus, I stopped using nail polish (playing strings) and the leftovers are startin to dry all up :)
C-Dot, I never had the idea to use the sewing machine! Your a creative (and a little...
What a wonderful thread!
I've been wearing aprons for a long time and have some vintage ones, too. The older ones, I have from my grandma's cupboard but they're all much used=stained. I was successful cleaning one of them but the other stains are forever as it seems. Even chlorine didn't do...
The needles in the left are simply giant sewing needles, maybe for repairing knitted socks?
The ones in the middle are which puzzle me. They have a stub flat point and two holes each. Any idea?
LizzieMaine, thank you for the detailed advice!
I have some vintage mending silk that's supposed to be used for this job (at least I think it is, judging from the color range). I also have some strangely shaped needles which my aunt claimed to be meant for fixing stockings. I'll try to post a...
I'd also say they're supposed to be sewn on. Since they didn't wash the garments so often (or not at all), it was okay to remove the trimming before each wash and sew back on afterwards. Maybe you can sew on small patent fasteners; but that's probably what ColeV48 means. :)
