    What's your favorite martini?

That's my problem with Cosmos. The first time I had them I was at a posh bar and my friend told me I had to try this new drink. I was already a little buzzed so didn't even bother to ask what was in it. After the first sip I was in bliss. I had three more after that and was more than a...

    *Snoods*

Hamilton, I LOVE that snood! I made a commitment to myself to quit smoking May 1st and have to learn to do something with my hands (other than eating) to take my mind off of cigerettes and sewing and crocheting are my top pics. Are they super hard to make? BTW: I was looking at snoods on...

    LA Times article on Swimsuits...

Excellent article! I found my fist vintage 1 piece this year and it's the first 1 piece that I have ever liked on me. I am 5'3 and find that many one pieces makes my waist seem boxier so I have always worn a bikini. I would love to buy some more vintage inspired one pieces so hope this...

    Make Do and Mend

I miss our farmers market and can't wait til it's open again in the spring. I am also thinking of starting a garden this year with tomatoes and maybe zucchini. I had a magnificent herb garden at the old house and really miss having fresh herbs available to me all summer when I cook so am going...

    Vintage Phones

I have one of those common 50's black Westinghouse phones that mounts to the wall and don't feel like taking pics because for some reason the Kodak software is causing my computer to crash. :( Anyhow, it was here when I bought the house and I love it! My favorite thing is to watch the kids...

    The tie, a date-killer??

LOL John, I hear you loud and clear! I was at a shower and was the one bravest to sit next to my grandmother because none of the other grandkids can handle her as they don't get her. I am 38 and the closest thing to hardship I remember was the gasoline shortage in the 70's. lol What is so...

    The tie, a date-killer??

That's a very good point. We deal with business associates in Europe and their style is very different from what we see in our offices. The suits are generally darker and more fitted, the shirts and ties are often silk and they wear the most amazing shoes. The women in the office oooh and...

    The tie, a date-killer??

I love seeing men in ties, but to me it's not really the tie as much as it is the entire look. I work in corporate banking and suits are a must for men if they are visiting customers. The suits most of them wear are the assembly line style that lacks any kind of tailoring or detail, they...

Current Issue Vogue & 40's Style

Daisy, I love your tangents so do them all you want. :D I too put on a vintage coat to sometimes hide my jeans and t-shirt look. I also throw on a hat to cover the hair and it's instant style. :D People go for comfort over style and I think many times women equate dresses with...

    Show us your hair do's....

I forgot to add that I took JBD's advice and put rollers in my hair dry and then misted it with a mixture of setting gel and water. It really does make the hair easier to get into the curlers and they stay there easier as well. I was concerned about what the curl would look like but it came...

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

I had the same initial concern at first but decided the heck with what people think and I wore it and am loving it. I think men look great in hats! It gives them character and makes them stand out in a good way. My son wanted to go to his senior prom like Bogie and I bought him a hat that...

Thanks Mary, I am going to attempt it over the summer. I just don't have the mental energy to deal with any kind of home improvement projects until it's nice out for one solid week. ;) Seeing your floor has reinspired me though. Did you get the tile at Lowes too? Thanks :)

The dress I am going to be possibly dying is black which IMO is probably the easiest color to dye. Is your dress white (it looks white or beige to me). If it is maybe you can soak it in lemon juice for 1/2 a day in the sun. That may lighten it, but not enough to ruin the fiber??

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

I understand what you mean. I have a grandmother who is known to ruffle some of the grandkids feathers, but she loves me because I get her. I think she took a liking to me when I saw her old black and white photos and I told her she looked like Elizabeth Taylor (I told her this when I was 10...

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

Thanks Jovan!! :D I had on my 40's wool swing coat and a vintage hat paired with a pair of jeans and Mary Janes and 3 people complimented me! I also wore a hat to Easter last week and all the women told me I looked very Jackie O or Grace Kelly. I have come to the conclusion that...

Thanks! I was thinking of doing that myself for the entire kitchen floor. My kitchen is black and white w/ red accents and I hate the beige linoleum that is currently on it. I have been thinking of sticking the new b&w tile linoleum right over the beige but am hesitant. I would hate to rip...

Have you ever dyed a dress before? I have one coming that has some slight discolorization on the shoulders and I am thinking of dying it if it is very noticable. You couldn't go wrong with that dress IMO, it is so pretty!

Mary, you have fabulous taste! :D That set is so nice and it looks fantastic in the yellow kitchen. Is that black and white tile underneath the set or is is some kind of rug?

Okay, I picked up a tripple barrel curling iron at a thrift today that was still in the box! Anyhow, I have no idea how to use it. Does anyone use this and what kind of curl does it give? I don't like to use a curling iron every day because I am afraid for my hair, but some nights I don't...
