Today I am clearing out a few ties, the bow and the knitted tie being modern, and the black tie vintage, a spare I now no longer need. Both the former are very good, whilst the latter is sound, but showing signs of over-harsh pressing, which may come out after professional dry cleaning. Its...
This very handsome Christy's Homburg arrived in the post today, but is just that little bit too small. It is a size 7 1/8 (UK), in very good condition, Imperial quality by Christy's, and retailed by G.S. Cowie, Aberdeen. The exterior is very good to excellent, with a nice deep grosgrain band...
I am disposing of these handsome evening dress shirt studs; whilst they are not noticeably hallmarked, they polish up like silver whilst I believe that the stones are some type of crystal.
I'd like £12 for them, which would include shipping anywhere in the world.
Here's my current storage arrangements:
The wooden box was a gift from my parents, the others are more recent - the glass-topped leather box is a new favourite.
A few recent purchases:
Victorian (?) for single-link cuffs
Aluminium, turquoise and celluloid 1920s
"Lion" brand snap links
Silver and rock crystal studs (coming soon to a classified section near you...)
I would differ slightly - in that full backed waistcoats are entirely correct for formal wear, backless waistcoats being a more modern variant of these, popularised in the 1930s.
I feel your pain; for my wedding I was able to acquire a tall silk hat that just fitted for £14, but it needed a fair bit of work to make it just passable and has suffered in the meantime. Now I'm keeping an eye out for a replacement but just try finding one in a UK 7 1/4 going on 7 3/8...
And me!
Here's a fairly out-of-date picture of my collection (must take another one):
I guess my dream shoes (I'm not terribly dreamy when it comes to these...) are:
Tricker's Belgrave (I love the adelaide throat)
Any decent English-made brown and white two-tone
I'll get into...
I've decided that these shoes, beautiful as they are, have to go. I can't bring myself to wear them, being NOS vintage, but I can't justify keeping them simply as a collectors' item either, so here they are:
They are a simple but classic plain captoe Oxford, with a channelled...

Please see the link above; as ever, 10% off final sale price for forum members (just request total at close of auction, quoting your forum i.d.)
Snap! I did the same (although I have also run up sets on those machines one finds in railway stations, post offices, etc, before now, with reasonable success.) I think the secret is to find the simplest font and layout possible, and eschew any design or logo. I'd love to get engraved cards...
I do a certain amount of selling on eBay, Amazon etc. (collector rather than trader) and find them useful to enclose with items. Unfortunately they are too big to fit in my silver evening card case so I don't tend to carry them.
