Augh, I get those sorts of comments all the time from girls my age, it's a bit annoying. Especially when you start to explain pincurls and the concept of setting your hair at night, and you see their eyes start to glaze over lol.
Oh, and I love the sailor comment, how sweet!
Thank you, one and all!! I still feel a tiny pang of regret occasionally when I remember my lovely Edwardian hair, but being able to do pincurls again is so worth the trade!
Miss Golightly, rag curls are a cinch, much easier than pincurls in my opinion! Here's a link to a great tutorial.
MaryDeluxe, what a find!!! That dress is so so great, and I think the two pairs of shoes that fit you just happen to be the best looking in the lot!
I'd given up on my local antique auction for clothes years ago, but this post had me scrambling to check to their online catalog for the weekend lol.
Oh, I say go for it! I'm 5' 3", with short legs and wide hips. For years I avoided trousers as I was sure you had to be svelte and 5' 11" to look good in them. I love my wool 1940s sailor pants best of all, they are actually quite slimming as they lace at the back and have that girdle-like...
Update
I just got the package, and holy moly, looking at them up close I would guess the lavender dress and orange bloomer set are indeed 1920s; the other dresses are probably 1930s, perhaps early 1940s. And YES, I have me some 1930s beach pajamas, in the cutest little pattern ever! The best...
short hair!!!
Hi ladies! I just chopped my waist-length hair off yesterday; I'm so excited, I feel so liberated! I still have to get the hang of setting it now that it's shorter, though.
No real help for controlling frizz (except to use a lot of conditioner when washing and hairspray when styling... that's all I do, though my hair's quite naturally lank) but your hair and makeup looks so gorgeous here!! Great job!
I agree with the others that a good pin curl set will do wonders!
However, when you're in a hurry, your hair's a great length for a little flip! Just tease the top a little, use your curling iron to flip out the bottom, and you're all set. Think Jackie Kennedy, Doris Day or Peggy Olsen. More...
My feet are pretty big as well (US 9/Euro 39), and even if you're blessed with little feet, vintage shoes are usually super narrow... so lots of vintage girls choose plain old retro-looking modern shoes (not even repro!).
Now, you may laugh, but stores that target the elderly set like my...
I absolutely hate the band JaneDear's music (no disrespect to you if you're a fan, pop country's just not my thing) but singer Susie Brown is so adorable:
Even if I find their songs unlistenable, I'm really glad she's promoting the pin-up/vintage western aesthetic :eusa_clap. And...
(Sorry to revive such an old thread... if I missed a more recent one, feel free to redirect me!)
Anyway, I really want some white 1930s style sunnies this summer, like these:
Has anyone seen any cheap knock-offs like these on the high street? (Sunnies are one of those things I...
Wow, Miss Sis, all your finds are so amazing!!
The shoes, picnic set, and swim suit are especially wonderful. Will you actually wear the suit in the water?
I'm quite a Revlon devotee now; I never intended to become one, but their cheap prices have made me a loyal customer of theirs. I love their Matte "Really Red" and "In The Red", too.
(I also adore their Just Bitten lipstain in gothic!)
Slightly off-topic, but Amerimark rules. They also have turbans and demure floral swimcaps for $5.00! I feel so lame browsing their website considering I'm 18, but whatever, some of their stuff is right-on for vintage and cheap to boot.
