People don't usually say anything to me (which I think is because cowboy hats are still not odd here in Texas), but yesterday I was wearing my Campdraft and took my car to the mechanic's for an oil change. The shop is run by brothers (men my age, around 50), both of whom separately told me that...
I have the feeling that photos of movie stars might have the hats tilted back some so that the man's face wasn't in shadow or obscured by the hat. What is the point of having a handsome fellow like Clark Gable in your movie if you hide his face with a hat?
Thank you very much, ManofKent. My own attempts to look at Harrods logos didn't help much; all I could say is that it wasn't the current logo. And I didn't look at UK eBay, so that was a help, too. The two hats look virtually identical, except for the white bow in mine. I didn't turn the...
I'll ask my dad if he knows when he got it. I know he was in London in '57 right after he graduated from college, but it is also possible my grandmother got it for him when they took a trip to London later. My grandparents took trips overseas and it was the sort of thing my grandmother would...
Here is a bowler hat that my dad gave my son. I don't know anything about it other than what you can see here. He might have gotten it in London in '57 or so, but it is possible that it dates to later than that. The felt is stiff, of course, but fairly thin. The brim is curled almost 180 degrees...
Stuffsmith, you often mention increasing the size of some of your vintage finds. Do you take them partially apart and resew them, or are you able to stretch them without deconstructing them? Thanks.
A Borsalino. This one is a touch large for me - maybe a half a size or maybe even a whole size but even aside from that, the cut is a little larger and not as close to the head as English made caps I have. Has anyone else noticed this about Borsalino?
Those new ones from Boneteria Auloronesa look good. What sizes will they be available in? Any colors other than black? I am pretty well supplied with black berets.
I'd look at Akubra's travel hats. Does it need to be crushable? Can you get a "real" hat? Akubra is a good choice there, too - good quality and not too dear.
I can imagine. My wife quilts and sometimes people ask her what she would charge to make them a quilt. The short answer is; "You can't afford it."As you say, it is the amount of time it takes.
