Hi Jenni :D
I did see it - there was a display of housecoats upstairs that was beautiful but it was really hard to photograph up there as it was just so dark and they don't allow any flash photography at all. There's a great picture of it in the book too.
This is my every day handbag:
It's black patent and I would guess it's 60s. It's big enough to carry all my usual crap PLUS an SLR camera - no mean feat for a handbag!
I love giant handbags. I'm always on the lookout for them.
Well, I'm a graphic designer and I worked in my hometown as a designer for about 7 years. The jobs were few and far between (there would be probably 1 or 2 situations advertised each year) and most of them were for really dull agencies doing really terrible design. Now in London there are...
The problem in the UK is similar Kamikat - London has very expensive housing but the salaries are much higher. So if I moved back to my hometown the house prices would halve but so would my salary. Either way I've got no chances of buying my own place, and I'm a reasonably well paid...
I liked it without heads etc - no fuss, just dresses. What would have been nice though is if they had featured more of the images from the book of the dresses being worn. It's nice to see them in context as well as as objects.
I want a role model to do more than look pretty, makes lots of money and take their clothes off. I want them to have principles, intelligence, integrity, humour and opinions.
But I like her hair.
Thanks! I will. Last time I went to my GP he was reluctant to even give me the paint-on treatment as he seemed to think it was so trivial, but I will be super-assertive next time :D
I second the book recommendation. Lots of images of real women in their Horrockses as well as models and royalty. And tons of info about the fabric design, which is the really interesting unique thing about them.
The lighting was quite low in this one but not so much that you couldn't see the dresses! And they aren't all in glass cases so you can get a really up-close look at them if you lean over the ropes! It's on until October Kate so you've got plenty of time still :)
The average house price in the UK costs 5 times the average annual salary and the average age of a first time buyer is 37. We're screwed if we want to own a property!
I would LOVE to be debt-free! Living alone in London is very pricey. I don't have expensive tastes at all and don't shop much but I always run out of money before the end of the month. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks for that Chas - that brought back some great memories of my teens in nightclubs in the 80s. I was a cutesy C86-er but we mixed with the goths because our town was so small we only had one nightclub that played anything alternative. So they'd play Bauhaus followed by the Pastels and one...
