I think there were three phases of Belstaff...
Pre-Malenotti: made in England
Malenotti: made in Italy
Post-Malenotti: made wherever
The fans of each phase will only acknowledge that phase or one that came before it. I think what broiler and I have a tough time reconciling is that in the...
Fair points on the original jacket pawineguy. I checked the tape on my jacket. The main and sleeves are black. The chest pockets are both brown. The main and chest aren't typically visible which is probably why I haven't noticed until now. As long as it was done symmetrically, I don't know...
Exactly. I own both a DD horsehide repro and an original Buco in steer. I would say DD's quality is on par with my original. The same type of variations/inconsistencies/imperfections/whatever exist in both jackets. I'm sure the folks on the Buco manufacturing line decades ago had no idea...
Hi broiler,
Great to see another Texan here. I believe I own the summer version of the same jacket purchased from J. Crew a few years ago. Here are my thoughts...
TLDR: It's probably real, but if it's a fake, the work is as good as the real one.
1) This is a NWT unworn jacket that has not...
I would agree that might look a bit busy. I went with them on the Plainsman because it is relatively simple. And because I share Worf's hatred of buttons. And because storm cuffs always seem good in theory but drive me crazy when wearing them.
I don't have one, but I'll see if I can talk my significant other into taking one tonight. Fortunately, she's understanding of my jacket addiction. I did make a mistake though. In looking over my emails with Thurston we modified a 1930s slim fit half belt rather than the LHB to make my...
I worked with Thurston to do a longer LHB (the Plainsman was too slim for me). I opted for a strap and buckle cuff for something different. I happened to have a picture that Wade sent me when the jacket arrived.
Also it looks like they going with standard thread, buttons, and labels rather than the requested customizations on existing orders. At least there is a chance that you might receive the denim you originally ordered...
Here's a thread devoted to the subject on fj. Not sure if this will make things seem better or worse given that people do seem to receive their jackets... After two years or so. @stuntman on fj seems to have some line of communication with them so it may be worth a post there...
I think everyone had hit on the jacket spots. For sites, I would suggest walking by the Hotel Chelsea followed by the NYC High Line. A drink at the Campbell Apartment in Grand Central seems like a nice fit for this forum.
I have a few of their leather jackets from before they were acquired by Labelux in 2011. They aren't the same style as many of the jackets discussed here but it's nice to have the option. I looked at the first few seasons of the Labelux designs and they shifted too far too the fashion end of the...
I would normally have gone with nickle on a black jacket. However, during our conversationa Dave mentioned to me that his pattern is from the late 40s at which time brass was still more available after the war so it was the more common zipper material. I went with brass as a nod to that. The...
It's actually amazing to go back and read the original joint Aero - Horween statement given everything that has happened. I think they can stand by every single sentence. Perhaps they knew the person in question would whole-heartedly accept the accusation (but, perhaps, not view it as an...
It looks like they have had the simmonsbilt.com domain registered since December. I am a bit surprised that they don't have a redirect set up to the new address with more rebranding in place given the time to prepare. I suppose that they are a smaller company but their approach to PR and...
