    Tuxedo Fashion Question...

Cummerbunds also have (or should have) a ticket pocket for holding your theatre ticket. The pleats should face up.

In a departure -- my new (old) Frenchie hat...

Swell! With the brim snapped up like in the e-bay picture, it looks like what Gene Hackman was wearing in "The French Connection".

Returning to suits. Is this Dior "glenn plaid"?

This pattern is also called Prince of Wales check, because it was popularized by Edward VII (grandfather of Edward VIII, later Duke of Windsor) when he was the PoW.

    Detachable Collar Shirts

Nothing more vintage-inspired than detachable collar shirts. There is not much choice in ready-to-wear, and these are the only I know of: http://www.newandlingwood.com/iashop.php?function=listprodcat&Category=9 http://www.pakeman.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=2930...

    Where do you wear yours?

Both sides were bad. Hemingway said in 1938 that he was disgusted with both sides, and he used to be on the Republican side. Franco's side was called fascist, just as the republican side was called Red, but Franco's side included the monarchists, army officers, the clergy, landowners and...

Trench Coat - the 'Ultimate' Thread!

Good trench coats at reasonable prices are difficult to find. Not many makers; there's Burberry's (overpriced and of dubious quality). Try getting a used one at a thrift shop. I got mine like that for something like 20-30$. Also, e-bay.

    Where do you wear yours?

I just finished reading a book about the Spanish civil war. Under the Republic, which was run by communists, socialists, anarchists and worker's trade unions, people didn't wear a jacket, tie, hat or collar, because they would have been shot if they did. The suit was seen as a symbol of...

    Trilby vs. Fedora

It seems OK to refer to a Tyrolean hat as a Trilby, but it doesn't sound right to call it a Fedora.

    Where do you wear yours?

Often restaurant staff wear the wrong clothes, like black tie at lunchtime. I think this has contributed to the decline of black tie, since it's perceived as a waiter's uniform, or as what the orchestra wears.

    Trilby vs. Fedora

I ask that, because Lock has 2 different categories for their hats, Trilby, Homburg and Porkpie, and Fedora.

Hideki Okisaka: Master '30s tailor !

The shoes are custom-made, so I guess anything goes. Apart from pink shoes, there's also a pair of nice two-tone spectators, where the white part seems to be suede.http://www.marcguyot.com/5.aspx

    Trilby vs. Fedora

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the difference between the two is that a trilby has a tapered crown, whereas a fedora has an untapered crown, which looks square when viewed from the front. Also, a trilby has a narrower brim. Did I get that right?
