I can't tell you exactly what attracted me to this hat, which is not at all like virtually every other hat I have. Admittedly, I took a chance with it, so tell me what you think.

Also, if you've ever heard of this hatmaker, or know anything about the brand, let me know. I believe it's a "Lucien de Brubant et Frere," but you look at it and tell me, since I don't do French.

For my education, is this a telescoping or porkpie crown? It's got a 2" brim, 3 7/8" crown and 1" braided ribbon. The liner and plastic insert are very clean and the sweat only shows a little wear.

It was imported from France, originally sold in Flushing, NY.

Even though I wore it for the first time today with a little tentativeness, I've gotten several compliments on it. But it's hardly my standard high-crown, pinch-front, wide-brim fedora.

Almost forget - here's what I paid for it:

Swell! With the brim snapped up like in the e-bay picture, it looks like what Gene Hackman was wearing in "The French Connection".

Gorgeous porkpie

I think the difference between a telescope crown and a pork pie is that the term porkpie is used with fedoras, and telescope with cowboy hats. Porkpies always have a even brim, while you can have a telescope with the kind of big flanged brim you see in cowboy hats.

Who cares what you call it; you look great in it.
