Patrick,
Great pictures. When I'm stateside again for a while I'd like to participate in a DC Tweed Ride. I'm only about an hour from DC and I have a nice vintage Rudge. Though it does need a bit of work.

Last summer the wife and I made a trip to Bermuda. She used a roller carry-on and I used my backpack. She quickly grew jealous of my backpack. Easier to take it up and down the stairs to the jet (no jetways at the airport in Bermuda). I think roller vs backpack comes down to how the rest of your...
Bad luck really?? Yikes I've got over a hundred dollars in bad luck in the lock box under my bed. 2 dollar bills make up a portion of my emergency cash in the house reserve. I'm not likely to spend them willy nilly but if my finances suffered a meltdown the gas station still accepts them to fill...
We have had one of them, and a diamond ring as well. But those are both intentional donations. The odd pocket change is what's most interesting, that and the several silver certificates that come up each year. Usually about 30 dollars worth of 2 dollar bills shows up too.

I'm a backpack flier myself. I picked up a Victorinox out of the trash one day. Busted zipper. A co-worker took it with him to his Filipino clothing shop and had the zipper replaced. I've used it on 3 trips back and forth from Afghanistan to the US now. As I don't fly direct and make stops in...
You'd be amazed at what turns up in Salvation Army kettles. We've had some pretty special finds in Annapolis, but the oddest was probably two years ago when a batch of Nazi era Reichpfennig coins turned up. 6 or 7 of them. Old, worn not in coin sleeves. We sometimes get rare coins in coin...
Does look like the child of an "Indian Pump" and a Mermite can. Pretty sure it's not US as the US Mermite cans never had backpack straps. Based only on appearance of the hardware, colors etc I'd say Russian as well. The modern equivalent (again not backpackable) are containers sold by Cambro...
You might see about pulling up one piece of plywood say in a high traffic area like a doorway to determine the floor condition below. I don't know what your budget is or your level of DIY skills but nothing about flooring is cheap nor easy. Wish you luck.

Quite a few in my home neighborhood remain. Some have had the front porches creatively enclosed with paneling and windows to match the curves and elephant foot posts. Also interestingly "bungalow" brings to mind small but I've been in some that had to exceed 2000 sq ft.
Did not know that about...
And wider seats too. The reality is I wouldn't want to subject my nicer clothes to the rigors of modern air travel in all but Business or First class. Though I do draw the line at wearing pajama pants...

Like circus trains but they moved the carnival. Seems like in their heyday there were dozens. And they are all gone now. But they aren't! There is still one going. Plying the East Coast of the United States.

Impressive! Reminds me that I need to find some Dick Tracey pencil boxes from the cereal upc's. My sister and I each had one in the 80's I think I'll surprise her this Christmas.
