    Kids' Radio Kit

Wow! I wonder if they'd ship to the US? I had one of those "Crystal Radio" kits as a child, but I couldn't quite make it work.

Ralph Lauren Roberts Regent Striped Pants

You'd need the Duesenberg to go with it, though. :)

    STETSON WHIPPET

Here are some detail shots in case anybody's interested:

    STETSON WHIPPET

Yep, when I saw the combination of hat, box and classic ad, I had to jump on it. The hat fits me perfectly, too, which is more than I can say for my Royal Deluxe fedora that I paid too much for. That one is a size 7-1/4 and I'm thinking of letting it go. I'll post that in the classifieds...

And my iffy attempt at a teardrop style:

    STETSON WHIPPET

I haven't decided if I like the brim down all around look. I gave it a center dent with no side dents for this one:

    STETSON WHIPPET

Whippet Three Ways Just got my Whippet 3-way. The triangular box even had the Robert Benchley ad from 1943 as a sticker on the underside of the lid. The box didn't have any internal structure, though, and some mug cut the leather strap off. Stetson actually sold the hat a bit short, as It...

    Clark Kent's Fedora

A Whippet? Like this one? I don't know who that guy with glasses is... :)

Went on holidays and all I got was this plastic wrapped Spitfire!

Not quite, he was a design engineer at Supermarine. The airplane in the background is a Spitfire Mk VI, a high altitude photographic reconnaissance version. He was in charge of converting the airplane to a pressurized cabin for the higher altitude. It became the first operational military...

Your Most Misunderstood Piece of Vintage

Thanks! That's pretty much what I figured, but it's nice to have it spelled out.

    Cheesecake!

That picture worried me as it slowly scrolled up from the bottom of my screen. It must have been the way the removed slice was oriented.

    Worst insult

When we sent a bunch of 'em to England as part of "lend-lease" they called them "Woodbines," which was a brand of cigarette. The long, thin smokestacks resembled ciggies to them, apparently. I remember reading about (and I built the model kit) the HMS Campbelltown, ex- USS Buchanan, and the...

Your Most Misunderstood Piece of Vintage

They say the only stupid question is the one you don't ask, so... What's the actual definition of "Pegged pants"? I have an idea but I'm not sure. Thanks!

    Diamonds aren't (always) a girl's best friend...

Pardon the intrusion again, but I have to concur on Alexandrite. A really nice one is far rarer than a diamond, and far more interesting. The best come from Russia, but there are nice ones out of Brazil, too. It has a hardness of 8-1/2 on the Mohs scale, so it's hard enough so that it can...

What type of knot do you tie?

I guess I'll have to try the Windsor with one of my longer ties. I've never attempted it.

    Cool shoes

It looks like fun, but from my very limited experience in the outer fringes of Hollyweird, it's a pain in the butt, too. How's your experience been in dealing with Hollywood types, BigSleep? No names, of course. Oh, and have you ever done anything at Glendale Studios? That's where I work.

    Tales of a Timelord.

No idea, but I'd sure love to borrow his TARDIS for some hat, suit and car shopping. :)

    BOATERS! DOES ANYONE COLECT BOATERS!

Since I finally won a vintage topper on the Mighty Bay, the final piece of my collection will likely be a boater. I've never worn one, but they seem very stiff looking to me. I'm guessing I'd need to be very careful with sizing, no? Are they as unforgiving of being too small as, say, a bowler?

    Amish Milk Terrorists

I'm an extreme example of that. Dad was 5'-2" and I'm six feet tall, and otherwise we're lookalikes.
