I have a number of military binoculars from the First and Second World Wars. They are mostly Canadian or British although I have a pair of Fernglas 08's as well. They were all consigned to boxes in the basement during a reno and have yet to emerge again. I do have this pair handy, though...
I'm a 7 3/8 extra long oval so if I find a 7 3/8 hat I often have to give it a bit of stretch to fit my weird head. I lucked out and found a commercial heated hat stretcher a few years ago but I also use a vintage wooden stretcher. The wood stretcher is size 6 3/4 and has no problem working on...
All of these are from one of my favourite movies, The Man Who Would Be King.
Daniel Dravot: "We are not little men"
Also Daniel Dravot, while training tribesmen: "When we're done with you, you'll be able to slaughter your enemies like civilized men."
And finally Peachy Carnahan...
It's almost as if they had all this left over equipment and animation from the Jurassic Park flics and didn't want to see it fade away. The story is feeble and the acting is little better. Glad I'm not alone on my dislike of this one!
On the other hand, I found a copy of season 3 of...
If you had a written quote, consider reporting them both to the BBB and the police. It is not an uncommon con up here for small, shifty (no pun intended) movers to suddenly discover that they can't move the stuff, or carry things upstairs, etc. without additional money. A common con and one...
Finally got a shot of my cat in his favourite spot to lurk...under a bush and behind his concrete brethren. Although it doesn't look it in the photo, he can be well nigh invisible in there when he wants to be.
I gave Terra Nova another try. As my son observed, how can anyone make dinosaurs and time travel boring? Well, Terra Nova manages this quite difficult feat nicely. In this case, it's two strikes and you're out. Yechhhh.
I love it when that happens. It's also fun when you open a new bag that's lying on its side in the fridge and out gushes a litre of milk because...surprise!... one of the bags managed to get punctured.
Picked up this delightful deco blonde wood box with what looks like a little bakelite handle. Not sure of the function...it has a mirror inside the top. Jewelry box? Makeup? It's about 4"x6".
Reading H.G. Wells War of the Worlds on my iPod Touch, downloaded from Project Gutenberg, of course. What a visionary Wells was! Now that I'm home, I'll switch to a print edition but Project Gutenberg is a terrific resource.
I certainly agree about The Maple Leaf Forever.
The Minstrel Boy is certainly a shiver-inducing tune...wonderfully apt and touching in the soundtrack for The Man Who Would Be King.
And Hearts of Oak always makes me stand a little straighter.
Great choices, Chas.
AMC is certainly making an effort! Mad Men is a hit (not a fan personally but my wife loves it). Breaking Bad is excellent. Then they really missed the mark with Rubicon and The Killing, in my opinion, but they made up for it with Walking Dead. I'm looking forward to Hell on Wheels in...
I really enjoy his performance in The Godfather, as well. He played the corrupt police captain beautifully.
Just out of curiosity, did your father ever tell you what his favourite roles/movies had been?
