barrowjh,
thanks, I agree soft black felt is mighty tough to keep clean in an outdoor working hat, and hot in warm weather! Here's how the hatband came out: I double-whipstiched some pieces of rattlesnake skin (left over from camo'ing a vintage hunting bow) onto a strip of soft calfskin with...
Does the stingy brim fedora make for a hunting and sporting hat worthy of the Stetson Gun Club?
IMHO - you bet! It is just way too nice a luxury hat to tear up in the woods!
The stingy brim fedora - or Trilby as it is called by the British - was developed in the late 1800's as a short brim...
I own one of the stingy brim pork pie fedoras: Stetson Royal DeLuxe Gun Club 1 3/4" brim, 4" crown creased, 5 1/2" open, charcoal black mohair finish felt with chocolate brown/charcoal weave silk grosgrain ribbon hatband (missing its pin but holes are there and I intend to replace it). The...
The Stetson Gun Club
I was surprised to see that Stetson Gun Club is a dead thread from '06. It was a brief discussion of whether or not the stingy brim pork pie style fedoras from the Gun Club line are legitimate hunting hats -- or merely fashion statements and "presentation pieces" for...

Here is JFK posing in a special Rice Festival fedora at Crowley, LA 1959. It appears to be an open Road or Stratoliner style w/ thin ribbon and bound brim, with plenty of rice glued on.

thanks guys, I was able to smooth out the teardrop crease a lot more by leaving a damp cloth on it overnight and gently forming with fingers. Now, if I could get the strong smell of moth repellent out... at least the upside is zero moth bites!

Here's my newly acquired Resistol "Dalworth" Open Road clone. Silver Belly 3X beaver, near mint, original price tag $25.00. Quickly dry-bashed it into a rough diamond, snapped the brim down, then dampened overnight into a smoother teardrop pinch.

Thanks, barrowjh, my Kitten Finish Telstar has the same white satin Resistol Byer-Rolnich liner which I thought was early 1960's, but I thought my Dalworth was more late 1960's? I would be curious to learn more about dating vintage Resistols by liner style. (as I am thinking of - gulp -...
I wish I knew the proper source of the Ike shot - obviously a posed outdoor portrait, but I just love how self assured he is as Supreme Commander 5 Star General Conquerer of Europe/U.S. President/Kansas rancher he dons this nubby raw silk blue-and-silver sport coat over a sky blue shirt and fine...

Thanks, tiptop, I hope to have the hatband cleaned and reattached.
BTW, alanfgag, killer vicuna 100! and neat to see the Jack Henry label homburg.
Not a Churchill, but my dad's other remaining vintage summer hat is an Easy Livin' Cocoanut hawaiian trilby c.1958 from Jack Henry's as well -...
Here's my dad's other Churchill - a black straw stingy brim Churchill Ltd. Zurich - Jack Henry's Kansas City. The straw and sweatband are great but the grosgrain hatband is wrinkled and stained through from its tape. Still a great dressy summer hat!
