What is the best Beret Manufacturer?

Wow, when I lived in France in the late 80s there were at least a dozen French makers.

Better Deal - Optimo or VS

But even if you have the oportunity to hold a hatter's work in your hands you will not be able to tell if it met the needs of the client. Did the dimensions of the hat work harmoniously with the shape of the client's face and physical stature? Was the color of the hat compatable with the...

Better Deal - Optimo or VS

Sorry but you have misunderstood me if you think I am including sizing/fit issues when I am referring to mistakes. Sizing/fit is probably the only aspect of the remote purchase model that is not problematic.

Holy grail of holy grail suits

Yeah, the style features of this suit are right up my alley. But would its less than pristine condition keep it from attaining Holy Grail status? It kinda does for me.

Better Deal - Optimo or VS

Over the years there seems to have been a lot more VS hats up for sale in the classifieds than those from Optimo. I tend to think that it's because the VS remote purchase model is more prone to mistakes and unlike a purchase from an online hat store a custom hat can not be returned.

To me they look like a relatively recent purchase that has taken a beating rather than an old pair of hard worn boots. It's probably due to the absence of the patination that polishing and conditioning brings to leather.

Better Deal - Optimo or VS

I think that both hatters make fine hats but your chances of getting exactly what you want are much greater when you can visit Optimo and try on dozens upon dozens of hats in various styles and colors to better inform you decision. There's a value to this but whether it makes up for the price...

    1920s party

I second the Seersucker suit; it's a classic that is a wardrobe staple. Personally , I would go with a optimo style Panama hat. Nothing wrong with a boater or linen cap but, post party, the optimo can be more easily worn with an everyday modern wardrobe. White bucks would fall into that...

    The Tile House

The Tile House as the locals call it, is a Moorish folly in Bay Shore, N.Y., built by Rafael Guastavino Jr., who with his father, Rafael Guastavino Sr., developed the tile vaulting system used in Grand Central Terminal’s Oyster Bar, the Whispering Gallery outside it, and other iconic spaces...

    How to Antique Shiny Brass?

I've always thought it somewhat disingenuous to apply a patina. There, I said it. Carry on......;)
