"What's That Ungodly Stink?" - French Cheese Surprises

The stuff in the green can is disgusting and should be lit on fire. Rinds of proper parmigiano-reggiano may be melted into a risotto.

Your favorite Scotch? Your Favorite liquor in general?

Armagnac-- a most lovely liqueur. I was given a bottle for my wedding, in a wooden box. Friends carried it on train and bus from Paris to Krakow and thence into the villages. I carried it back (but on a plane so it doesn't count) from Poland to Berkeley. It took years to drink it.

Lovely Marrakesh number. How are the cleaning issues different for cotton than for wool suits?

"What's That Ungodly Stink?" - French Cheese Surprises

Surely small amounts of fine cheese, alongside red wine to cut the fat, apples to aid digestion, and crusty bread, when combined with plenty of exercise, can be occasionally indulged in even by those with some cholesterol issues.

"What's That Ungodly Stink?" - French Cheese Surprises

I like the St Marcellin too, a whole lot! For an almost unpasteurized (that is, "flash pasteurized") non-industrial Brie, I must AGAIN AND AGAIN trumpet the name of Brie de Nangis and Fromage de Meaux, both made from the same people in France, the two cheeses being different only in size...

People tell me I look a LOT like Marilyn Monroe. I have never seen it.

    The Over Medium Egg

I had grits in 1988 or 1989 in Louisiana and I didn't "get" them. I mean I didn't get the idea. My only frame of reference was oatmeal. Now I understand polenta, at least, so maybe I have a slightly better conception of what the Idea of Grits is. I'll have to try again at a respectable...

The Dumbest Comment I Ever Heard

Ummm ... it might have been an invitation to talk further. I am only saying this because when I was your age, I never noticed when girls were hitting on me -- and now that I'm 38, ugly, and have a wedding ring and a child, they don't hit on me too often. Was she cute?

    Pleats without cuffs?

My Mom almost always does this when she adjusts pants for me. It works fine. She is quite keen on the extra fabric - - even when she puts in (or extends) real (not false) cuffs. She says the extra weight makes the drape better. It also, naturally, reinforces the flatness and discourages the...

    Exciting archaeological discoveries....

I love working hard too -- but only in temperatures under 70 degrees Fahrenheit. In the hot countries like Israel, no bugs or wormies in the soil -- it's too darn dry. The closest thing to that is bugs in the air and, twice per summer, a massive, (mildly) stinging jellyfish swarm off the coast...

The Dumbest Comment I Ever Heard

No bell bottoms, just tight all the way thru. Pockets were a bit slashy but not fully done as such.

The Dumbest Comment I Ever Heard

That's fair -- but I got it from Baron Kurz. Do you really think he'd have a 1970s tie? Then again, you are right that it is better to assume an honest mistake. I recently bought a DB brown pinstripe suit after only trying the jacket. The pants were crazy tight, not just the waist but the...
