Adjusting to small town life.
Couldn't agree more about public education...not a fan of 'private' schools. I taught at an all-boys high school. We had a uniform, etc. but it was public and free...no tuition, no entrance exam. We viewed it as our job to educate every single boy who walked through the door...gifted...- DNO

What do our hats really say about us, and more importantly, are they right?
When I was young all men wore hats, primarily fedoras. I always loved the look. But kids didn't wear fedoras. By the time I was old enough to don a fedora the sixties were in full swing...a fedora really wouldn't have looked too good with the long hair and jeans I was wearing by then. Times... -

What do our hats really say about us, and more importantly, are they right?
Absolutely. I avoid anything with a visible logo...I've even been known to unstitch embroidered logos in order to remove them. My wife thinks I'm a tad crazy, but she agrees with my "no advertising" mindset. -

No kidding! The comment about the schools really shakes me. I spent 35 years as a teacher and dept head in a high school...if our students had been performing that poorly, we would have viewed it as a serious failure on our part. We'd have worked hard to improve...really hard. "The schools...- DNO

Found a Carlton Ware vase, about 8" high. Dating between 1906 and 1927 according to the mark. No chips, cracks, etc...lovely. It still amazes me that things like this keep popping up...and I love the moth motive, rather than the more common butterflies.- DNO

I suspect we're not alone, esteban. I haven't touched a tube of paint for a few years now...maybe I've stopped glowing in the dark. They finally suggested that cadmium and cobalt based colours may not be healthy...just like lead white! But they're beautiful yellows and blues! And...- DNO

Thanks for your answers about pewter. I doubt I'll actually use the pewter tea pot, although after so many years of painting using cadmium and cobalt based colours, I doubt a little lead would do much...heck, it might help!- DNO
