Thoroughbred Hats?
Just got a 10x Thoroughbred western hat on eBay. I'm a city slicker, and I never heard of this brand before, but sometimes a western hat gets my attention. Figured it was worth the $85 BIN price. I guess from the style it is 1950s or earlier. -

I believe ill fitting clothing-- in general-- is a trend pushed by the mass market garment industry. A trim, tailored look limits customers to a certain range of body types and makes the production of clothing much more complicated. I see it everywhere, big baseball hats, puffy sneakers... -

New Stetsons are always a gamble, and I don't like the odds. I've returned, sold or given away every one I've had. Love vintage Stetsons, new ones don't compare. -
What would you not be seen dead in?
I would wear Ropers. I would not wear flip flops outside the shower. Nor would I wear a turtleneck sweater outside a U-Boat or tramp steamer.- Uhu

Nice one. Trouser waist measurement, that's taken at the very top opening, right? Does it widen any a little further down, e.g. where a modern trouser waist would be? Thanks!- Uhu

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest
Puppies, what ya gonna do? Sad end to a nice hat, but at least you can be assured its not a case of eBay seller's remorse (where the seller decides it sold too cheap and makes up a story about a lost item, or worse, never sends it and waits for you to initiate a refund). -

I'd recommend a Akubra, wear it a while, see how you like it. If you commission a custom hat later, you'll have a better idea what options to order from your hat maker. I wouldn't recommend a new made Stetson, and definitely not mail order. My experience was poor. I like my Akrubra... -
