Possibly the coolest leather jacket I've seen!

Does it have something to do with Pendleton's Board Shirt?

Good work RBH. And Tony, your words may be gone, but they will live in my heart forever.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Slacker - congratulations. I've got a one month old new addition. Hard to find fedoras for him. Don't worry though, my two and 1/2 year old is getting into all the fedoras I bought when he was born in a big way. He's even got two deadstock Stratoliners. It'll come! Frank.

Possibly the coolest leather jacket I've seen!

I particularly like the breast-shaped yoke in back. Looks like one of the female superheroes put their jacket on backwards.

Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

Lots of work/riding bookmakers pre-cut the lace slits mentioned above in the tongue. Over time, where you run the laces through becomes the shape of a tube, or loop. Very effective. Seen on Justin's, Chippewas, etc...

    Courage to Wear a Fedora

Cagney typically wore a tall crown, small/medium brim. I've never seen a photo of him in a 4" brim cowboy hat. Then again, like Eric, he probably could have pulled it off. Some folks just look good in any hat. Alan is another good example of this. Not the typical cowboy, (although with his...

    Courage to Wear a Fedora

Eric - you are one of those guys who can pull off just about anything. I don't think you're in any danger of the mushroom/tack syndrome. I also agree with fedoracentric about face shapes. Those charts can be excellent, but nothing beats an experienced hatter's opinion. I think there's some...

    Courage to Wear a Fedora

Turned 50 this year, and have noticed that I give less of a shiite every year what reaction people have to my hat wearing. When I was younger, I definitely felt a little odd with a fedora, because most of my family wore cowboy hats when they wore hats at all. Nowadays, it's not just fashion...

Open Crown Stetsons: A Call (Plea) to Retailers!!

Thanks for the reassurances guys. Crappy tack stitching and stiff crowns are Stetson traits I've been dealing with for many years on their westerns, so no biggie there. Looking forward to the hat, as finding a vintage Strat in a 7 7/8 is not happening. My 2 1/2 year old was playing in his...

Open Crown Stetsons: A Call (Plea) to Retailers!!

Hope the quality is still okay on these. Just ordered a black Strat. Hoping for no taper if it gets wet, no powder runoff. We'll see. Frank

    Felt hats in summer..

Brian - where I live it was 111 degrees with 11% humidity at 4 p.m. Eleven percent isn't much in some climates, but anything over 10% at 110 degrees or more is absolutely excruciating, and might change your mind about staying out in it and being comfy. I've seen temps here at 125+, and even...

    Western, anyone?

Not the boot barns anywhere in SoCal, but maybe a good SD western wear store, or Major Moore for certain. Frank

    Western, anyone?

Bman - you should get someone to put a kettle curl on that brim. You definitely have enough to work with. Nice crown shape. Frank

    Cowboy Boots

Odd. I agree that spurs are not always a necessity, but most of the working cowboys I have known (I'm talking about horsemen, not the guys who work cattle on four-wheelers) have spurs on a good deal of the time. There are many types of spurs, suited for all different situations and activities...

    Western, anyone?

Bman - black hat looks excellent in the "Gus" crease. They don't have to all be 10" tall with a 5" brim. I am really envious of the Knott's hat. It reminds me of several hats I've seen my great grandfather wearing in late 1800s photos, like my avatar. Really cool, plus I have the same...

At what weather temp is it time to put fur felt to sleep for the summer?

Felt all year, and it gets over 120 here in the summer. I stick to silverbelly in summer, as a black hat feels like a hot plate on your head at those temps. My only straw fedora makes me sweat just as much as felt anyway, and Sunbody straws are only bearable if you continuously wet them, making...
