    Open Crown Stetsons: A Call (Plea) to Retailers!!

    I'm interested in this as well, the OR re-issue. I had to cancel my order for a black Stratoliner, due to a misunderstanding with the vendor, so I still have the "new hat itch." Plus, the OR has always been my favorite Stetson, but the newer ones are too low-crowned and stiff. Not easy to...

    Cash for Clunkers Part 6

    Still taking hats, Art? And are westerns okay?

    Show us your Guns!

    That S&W .44 posted earlier brings back good memories. My dad wanted to get me a new gun for my 18th, and was surprised when I asked for a long barreled, stainless .44 magnum. It was a beauty, and a blast to shoot. I got an idea of the power when shooting at some targets mounted on hay bales...

    What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

    Nice Che, big fan of calavera art. Posada is my favorite artist, and I have quite a few Dia de Los Muertos pieces in my house. I always want to get one of those life-sized pieces, but they are usually very very pricey around these parts. Frank.

    The Stratoliner Society {VINTAGE}

    He's got a few more good ones, waiting for cooler weather. He already wore the Cavanagh Milan a bit.

    Western, anyone?

    Great looking hat Harv, and looks just right on you. I like a smaller-brimmed western now and then. Keeps away the "all hat, no cattle" comments. Frank

    The Stratoliner Society {VINTAGE}

    My 2 1/2 year old, out on Halloween, wearing one of his two NOS Stratoliners as a cowboy hat. He also has one in grey, pretty near mint. I bought these for him before he was born, size 6 1/2, thanks again Benzadmiral for the heads-up. He has a great vintage cowboy hat I got from Alan, but...

    BOARDWALK EMPIRE (HBO) - Everything you wanted to bootleg about the Show!

    He's not dead. He's living in a house with John Dillinger and Elvis. Sometimes they have dinner and a movie with Tupac Shakur.

    BOARDWALK EMPIRE (HBO) - Everything you wanted to bootleg about the Show!

    They're going out while the show is still great, which I respect. I'll miss it, but at least it won't drag out and get silly or boring, or get canceled without a real ending, like Carnaval or Deadwood. That was a heartbreaker. They do seem to be taking a "Sopranos" approach to the last...

    The FL users guide to taking good pictures of your new jacket

    Almost all of these suggestions are right on. The only good photos I've had of my Aero Teamster were outside, in afternoon sunlight, with someone else taking the pix. Much better color representation than indoor lighting. I also agree with the "model" comment. I won't name the site, but...

    Hat Conversions and Refurbs by John Galt

    My grandpa favored horehound candy. It's an acquired taste. And if he sang, it was his own version of "Streets of Laredo," or "Sweet Betsy from Pike."

    Hat Conversions and Refurbs by John Galt

    My bad Alan, I've got an old nutria my grandpa gave me, you're absolutely right, they keep on kicking as well as any beaver. I've probably re-blocked that hat 10 times, not to mention the years of service to the previous owner. Still looks like new felt. Frank

    Hat Conversions and Refurbs by John Galt

    Folks who don't think a soft hat can be durable have most likely never had an older, 100% beaver cowboy hat. Nothing takes abuse or cleans up better in my experience. I prefer my westerns almost as soft as fedoras, it's just harder to find them that way. If you're not "holding your mouth...

    Aero Trial Update.

    Hope this doesn't appear too trollish, but I always wondered. Was Will the one who actually sewed the FQHH labels in the "storse" jackets? I only ask because the person who assembled mine still works at Aero, and it seems like that person would have known the difference. My "storse" LHB...

    Leather jacket length and untucked shirts..

    I only tuck my shirt in if I'm going western. Riding a horse in an untucked shirt can be uncomfortable, as a long shirt tail sometimes gets sat on, making it harder to move. Plus, if I'm untucked, who's gonna see my cool hand-tooled (by me) belts, or my vintage buckles? Certainly not me...

    The Non Shorpy Web All Stars.

    This is a photo taken by my grandfather of a local Indian legend, Pedro Chino, around 1930. Pedro was the last authentic Cahuilla shaman, and local folklore often claims he was 125 when he died, although the census disagrees. Cahuillas believed he could shape-shift and had magical healing...

    Official Fedora Lounge Hat/Lapel Pin

    Can't remember if I already moved it on, or it's just put away somewhere. I'll look.

    Official Fedora Lounge Hat/Lapel Pin

    I never used mine, because it was the kind of straight pin that pokes a pretty good hole in a hat, and the post was pretty long, so there was no way it was going to just go through a ribbon and sit right. If it was a side-mount or safety-pin style fixture/clasp that you could mount like the JBS...

    Shorpy All Stars

    Ed - I missed your post with the Palm Springs parade cuties. I had to blow it up to make sure one of them wasn't my mom, who would have been about that age then, and was frequently in the parades. I'm sure my grandfather was the parade announcer, or possibly rode his horse in that parade, as...

    No love from MTV

    Tropicalbob - "Bastards of Young," I think was the video. Just a speaker playing the song. Classic. I remember MTV when they only had about 8 songs, and ran "Fish Heads" several times a day. Still 1,000 times better than what they run now. Even most kids I know are too cool for MTV now.
