I went into an upholstery shop today to look at some fabrics. I was wearing a 50's shirtdress I have that I adore, which I always thought fitted me like a glove and I was even wearing a longline bullet bra. As I was chatting with the sales assistant it turns out that he thought I was expecting...
Oh wow, I just saw a pair of shoes in a charity shop today that were exactly like the bottom left ones (Dutch wedge) on the tutti frutti ad, down to the colour combination! I vaguely thought of buying them to sell them on, but wasn't sure they were vintage enough.
Yes, I often use a sniping service, but because I was actually home at that time didn't think it necessary and then something came up, well you know how it goes. Probably just as well, the seller didn't know what size the pattern was, and I have never re-sized.
I haven't read that, but am dying to read "Glamour" http://www.amazon.com/Glamour-History-Feminism-Carol-Dyhouse/dp/184813861X/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1298307500&sr=1-2
I keep looking at it in the bookshop, but since it's my birthday soon and I have given relatives lists of books I don't...
Thanks ladies, some good ideas! I am thinking of banker's boxes for the moment, as I can't really buy any new furniture due to space, but I may go have a look at some in the next few days and report back.
Pattern storage
So, as my collection is ever increasing, I was wondering how you ladies store your vintage patterns?
I bought a few folders with clear inserts, so I can skim through and see them all, separated into dresses and skirts, etc. However, I find that not that many patterns fit into a...
Indeed! I wonder how they make enough money though, because vintage style being on the fringe as it is, I can't imagine that many people can or wnat to afford their stuff, so who actually buys it?
If you search for square dance petticoats they often come in shorter lengths. I have a shorter one from Ebay that I got from someone who stopped dancing and was selling off all their attire.
Has anyone got this book, and if so, is it worth the steep price? It has really good reviews, but £62 for a book is more than I normally spend.

A Multi-Method Approach

I'd never heard of them until this thread, and I looked around their site and am really not missing out I think. $455 for a skirt that is essentially a petticoat? There isn't even anything on there that is unique or great new design, it's all completely predictable and cliché. There are a few...
But who actually tries to do that? Dressing in 50's clothing doesn't mean I'd like to look like I am the age of my grandmother, it just means I like the silhouette better.
Trying to dress like a teenager when you are not signifies fear of ageing to me, whereas deliberately dressing in something...
I saw some posts on Blooming Leopold a while ago, they were great.
I have wanted a cape for years, but there is always something about the ones I find that isn't right, ie. colour, shape or fit. I have one, but it's pretty short and not that warm. I got outbid on two other ones, but then found...
