I caught a Weather Channel special on the great US floods a while back and the 26-27 flood was prominently featured. Before that I had a vague recollection of it but had no idea of its scale and longevity. For some reason the Johnstown flood seems to get all the notoriety.
There was an article in the NYT the other day saying that a recent trend has New Yorkers dressing up in much greater numbers when going out on the town, especially the younger folks. That's good news.
For really cold and windy weather I ditch the fedoras in favor of tweed flat caps with thinsulate lining and drop down rabbit fur ear flaps. Very toasty. In bitter cold the fashion cops tend to zip it up and even if they were to comment I would laugh right in their face.
