how to make an american quilt (revolves around the stories of women growing up in the golden era)
also i've been netflixing episodes of Carnivale, which i LOVVVVVE!
i did know that about the wool symbol! but do you know what colors the pendleton tags were printed in in what years, or other characteristics associated?
and omg i HAD a lavendar one! i bought it on a clearance rack because i had a couple broken buttons on my favorite one. it was mangled...
yep! but here it's called Value Village. one of my supervisors worked at one in phoenix... i'll ask her how the company is down there! our store is SUPER flexible with hours, so it seems like it would be good for a 2nd job.
as many of you know, i've been working in a thrift store. i finally got around to posting some pics of some of my newfound goodies in the thriftstore thread!
here's a teaser...
i work in a thrift store so naturally i find a TON of great stuff - some of it real vintage, some of it fake! here are a few things i've picked up lately.
shoes that look old, but aren't! i paid $3.50.
cute rockabilly-style blouse - late 50s? - $1.50
amazing brocade satin dress with...
kim, my fear of my sewing machine was so deep-seated that if i don't sew for awhile, it STILL comes back (and i've even made whole garments on it)!
sometimes i think alterations can be more scary to start than a brand new garment!
sometimes when i'm stressed i make a huge list of everything that i need to get done. then i can relax knowing that i won't forget any of it. knitting helps me too... as long as i'm not working on a project involving a lot of counting and thinking!
it's weird that both of you mentioned this... my chiropractor advised me to stop doing yoga because i apparently have this problem too - i would think i was just stretching myself, but really i was hurting myself (even though it felt good at the time). she told me that yoga focusing on...
i didn't think i had a "secret weapon"... until i sat down with a new pair of tweezers and plucked the heck out of my eyebrows today! they are now thinner than i've had them in a few years, and i feel like i look younger, less tired, and totally hott!
i agree - very sad!
whenever i come upon something very personal at a flea market, i feel like i hit pay dirt, but also kinda sad. like my 1947 bride book - i got it for $3, but geez! that lady kept such a great record of an exciting time in her life, and no one in her family wanted it? it's...
:offtopic: it drives me nuts that so much stuff is thrown in the trash! one of my coworkers (i work at a thrift store) told me that whenever they find "old" sewing patterns they go in the trash because "they're not in great condition and no one would want them." i just about flipped out and...
haha, seriously! the other day i was saying to a friend that it would be cool if they turned the Jantzen Building (in portland) into apartments. then i realized, wait, there's no way i'd be able to live there anyway! i'm sure they'd be $$$.
heehee, thanks! chickens are actually a lot of fun. i'm lucky to live in an urban area where they're totally allowed.
and mending things is a great place to start making do!
wow, neat story! thank you so much for posting this!
i have a diary from a young lady from 1939. it's pretty boring though... the entries are like, "went dancing tonight." i want to know details!!!
jbd, i've often worn stockings when dancing up a storm too, and it never bothered me much. of course, this is coming from someone who's alltime number-one favorite type of top to wear dancing is the cashmere or wool (though short-sleeve) sweater! lol
all-in-all though... i am way too...
