I didn't know he was a real person either... I just see lots of poseurs and Eurotrash types wearing VonDutch caps and t-shirts. I just figured it was another fad creation. Interesting...
It is a shame when something you cherish suddenly becomes hijacked by the "mainstream". Grrrrr....
Ha ha - the idea to go as a slob was a good one... Me aul man suggested that as well, but I actually don't have the proper clothing (thankfully)!
I actually get less comments than I did when we were living in Ireland, but I manage one a week - "hey its the gangster" or something equally...
Thanks lads for the suggestions. The original route sounds intriguing, I wonder however if they have any left kicking around in the auld fella's size - he's a 48 - 50 jacket.
Cheers,

BEST REPRO Irvin style sheepskin...?
Hola,
Thanks again to the experienced folks who pointed out that the jacket from "Stairway to Heaven" was an Irvin.
Now that I know what kind of jacket it is, I am helping my father to order one, however I've come across several different makers on the...
When I was living in the US I was an 96B Intel Analyst in the USAR (!)... However, most of my brief career I actually did another MOS's work - 97L (translator). Uncle Sugar decided that since I'm multi-lingual they could save a few bucks by having me train in a different specialty and skip...
Regarding "distressed" jeans... ah, well - if people are dumb enough to buy them. It is shocking how sheep-like the general public is (sheeple instead of people). If I were uber-famous, I would intentionally start the most ridiculous craze I could think of, just to have a laugh at the dopes...
If only! :p
I walk everywhere... well, not entirely true - I do take the bus and the tube. But everywhere else I go is on foot. We don't have a car here in London.
Hmmm... very interesting. Either we have extremely rough pavement here in the UK, I severely favour my right foot or... my shoes have rather wimpy soles.
I think it is the latter. I have a pair being resoled now, but for what these people charge I could get a new pair!!!
Hola amigos,
Those of you who wear leather-soled shoes... how long do your soles last? I wear mine daily and, although I try to rotate them as normally as possible, I seem to wear a hole in the right sole in about 3-4 months.
Only the right - never once had a hole in the left...
It is the same situation in Romania now, most (younger) men don't wear the ushanka (caciula in Romanian) type fur hats. They are getting harder to find as well. I would rather wear one of those in the cold than anything else. I've had two so far. However, combine the fur hat with my accent...

Come on - how hard is it to wash yer pants?
Okay - I can understand if you are up on Everest, stuck in a snowstorm and can't change yer skivvies, but jeez... People are becoming lazier and lazier.
A few years back I saw a...
Greetings all,
I realise that I'm looking for a needle in a haystack, but I'm trying to track down some B-29 nose art, more specificic, the nose art of the B-29 that my grandfather flew in during WWII. For what it is worth, he was in a B-29 called "Axtell's Hammer".
Do any of you WWII...
Sorry to hear about your purloined hat - some people have no class.
I have been lucky so far regarding my hats, but I am also vigilant! A few weeks ago, while waiting for my darling wife outside Marks & Sparks here in Islington I had some ruffians make a half-arsed attempt at swiping my...
I came across the Lounge first, and then I discovered COW.
They are both great sites, full of very helpful people who offer loads of useful information. I think that these types of forums are an example of the power of the Internet, used in a positive way.
I try to visit these forums...
Greetings all!
I'm back with another query for the knowledgeable folks here at the 'lounge...
Does anyone know what type of jacket David Niven was wearing in "Stairway To Heaven"? I saw the film years and years ago and I can't remember any real details, nor can I find it on DVD or video...
Greetings all,
How difficult is it to modify (cut) the brim on a felt fedora - correctly?
I have two HJ hats (not Poets or Raiders models), and the brim is a bit large for me. In the front it is fine, but it is the same width on the sides, which seems a bit "somrero-esque".
I tried...
