As usual, rlk carries the day in the new hats thread! Once again you've provided something for us to ogle, and good Lord, look at the color on that one! Thanks, Robert, for not sticking to the moratorium. You are a hat icon!
Jedwbpm (Jeff) - this makes a heap of sense to me. Well said, sir. My own personal take on it would be to forego the hat rather than put plastic on it when going out in the rain (or wear a beater/ball cap/etc.)
Neophyte, those are some pretty cool pictures. Those old Death Valley 49'er codgers were certainly a hat wearin' bunch! Almost nary an unhatted head in the group, but I can attest the sun is blazing in DV.
Mainly conjecture on my part, and I can't help you with the age of the hat, but Churchill is a fairly well-known brand. It's probably fur felt, and looks like it's been treated kindly for a vintage lid. It has an underwelted brim and a nice wide ribbon. Wear it in good health!
Ugh! Just saw this...sorry about your hat, Aureliano! The people at the restaurant probably thought you were being a difficult customer, even though they didn't say it. They probably thought, "What's the big deal?" We all know it's a big deal, and I feel your pain, buddy.
I've got to admit, Tomasso, that's a great looking umbrella! I suppose one could acquire it for about the same price as a new car? The high end luxury market is crazy sometimes...
That is a nice Foxhound - I find the ribbon to be really elegant. It seems midway between the width of a Whippet ribbon and a Lee Adventure type of ribbon.
I agree, this seems to be the most compelling hypothesis. JtL, thanks for your thoughts on the topic. We should consider calling you JtLPhD.:D
And Billy, thanks for posting the ads as well!
