I read about this - that there seems to be a structural anticipation in the brain for higher purpose, which I find very interesting. I would describe myself as religious in a very lapsed way and am probably more interested by the ritual than living after I'm dead or the idea of God (though I am...
Some variations of the shawl collar jackets seem to feature slash pockets instead of the patched flap pockets. Has anyone seen one with horizontal pockets, like on the work coat? Anyone know what the back length on a size 40/42 would be? It's not as if I'm thinking of selling off some jackets...
It looks to be quite a tome. Some reviews have shown an interest in Morris' identification of the Puritans as oppressed because they were so strident and austere - the desire to separate and redeem/cleanse, etc. seems somewhat in the DNA of group identities in the later States. I got interested...
I've got a copy of Morris' 'American Messiahs' on the way... looks like an interesting read. All the ways in which that particular population is offered up for saving. I remember many years ago getting a knock on the door in Seoul and inviting in two chisel-jawed American lads who proceeded to...
I am fairly sure that, due to spending my entire career in education in Asia, I am far less hardened and cynical than most of the (fellow) English people I meet now that I am back in the UK but I have no idea if that makes them more mature or just less content than I am- I am certain that people...
That's because if you think that way, you actually are running yourself down. You lose muscle mass (eventually- it takes a lot longer if you exercise) and bone density (see parentheses before) but you don't have to lose flexibility very much at all - in fact, flexibility training, light weights...
Old is always 15 years older than you are :)
Age is just a 'problem' - spiritual if you are religious and mechanical if you're looking at the science. Let's hope the magic pill comes soon, as we're all our own avalanches without it. At the end of the game, the king and the pawn go back into...
First one was a pigskin suede jacket with cargo pockets that went with me on my first job in Korea. After that, I've never been without a leather jacket when I travel or relocate (except once to Vietnam where it's too hot to ever need one in the south). Got a high-end one (my first Aero...
Fried noodles will do it for quite a few caucasians like me - and rice, too. All you need to do is combine rice, noodles, beer and heat with some more beer and your jeans waist size can go up in a few weeks - less if you have the measuring tape in one hand and a beer in the other.
At least...
Proof that body shape and not carrying extra weight is half the battle. The colour choice doesn't make a huge difference - these all absolutely suit the man. He also has a certain bearing which might disincline a person from insulting his dress choice, too.
I'm going to post the antithesis of...
Yes- I don't wear black leather jackets at all now and haven't since 40. Brown, cordovan or tan colours I find more appealing and they tend to fit with my other clothing more. Some of it is about body shape - if you can stay reasonably gut-free, any jacket will look better but it's also...
I agree. I think that a jacket needs to be a sort of minimal item - cafe racer jackets, half-belt styles with as few extra bits as possible and preferably worn with fairly low-key stuff, too. My next buy is probably going to be a Pike Bros deck jacket, and, when I relocate to Shanghai again...
:). The buffalo Thedi got me thinking about a next purchase, which I then had to spend a long time un-thinking about. A shawl collar buffalo tan jacket would definitely be in the works if I didn't need to shift two others and the pandemic, etc.
