    Income

Although we're across the pond, we participated in the poll as well. In the age of the Internet, we often order from a US-based vendor if they offer a quality product or service.

Sale at Trickers on Jermyn Street

    Yes, they're a greenish-olive colour. I didn't use flash, just a wee tripod and 10-sec timer. I hate flash.

    Beater Brotherhood

Ah, well - there are a number of small stains that refused to come out, and the interior was burned when the previous owner used a hot lamp as a hat rack! You can't see them in the pick.

    Beater Brotherhood

Here is my new fave hat for the summer: It is an old Borsalino that Art Fawcett restored. He did a wonderful job. It is made from soft, buttery felt - so light weight that you can reshape it without steam, in seconds. Perhaps "beater" isn't fair - it is a fine hat, and great...

    What keeps you awake?

The knackers/crackheads two floors up from us keep me awake. They come in around 01:00am after a hard day of begging on Upper Street. The start bickering and carrying on until about 3:00, sometimes even longer. After that they start going in and out of the building, up and down the...

More and more Ladies wearing Vintage?

Last Sunday I was sitting next to the ladies' fitting room in Karen Millen, and I heard the saleswoman ask a customer where she got her shirt and hair comb. The customer said that they are vintage, that they belonged to her grandmother. The two gals then went into a conversation about...

    Belts or Suspenders?

Awwww shucks. I missed the poll... I would prefer braces. I do wear both, only because some of my trousers don't have buttons for them, and one of the pairs that does has them placed too low (and the tops roll over, looking really untidy). IMHO, certain trousers, depending on the cut...

Silk tie and liquid soap stain!

My wife picked up these "magic" wipes from Marks & Sparks, they're meant to clean silk but work very well on all sorts of things. They're small pads imbibed with a naphtha mixture, and they did a so/so job. It is the grease or colourant in that *$&% soap that won't come out. I stopped in to...

    Tie widths through time

I've got a skinny NOS tie from the '30s. It is from JC Pennys, but actually quite nice. Silk and Rayon mix. It is surprisingly skinny, aproaching 60s/70s skinny. I am partial to 40s ties however. I love the Deco patterns, as long as they're not too loud.

Nice shoes, 'Kid. I like the detailed, tooled leather caps. I really should gets some shoe trees, but I haven't got around to it yet. I rotate through my shoes pretty regularly (habit I picked up in the army - alternate that footware soldier) so they haven't had the chance to curl up or...

Silk tie and liquid soap stain!

Argh! Some liquid hand soap dribbled on my new Burberry tie... I tried to get it out with a little bit of water... No dice, the slight stain is still there. Darn it - to stain my tie with soap, jeez... Any suggestions? It is a very soft tie, light coloured.

    Soccer/Footy fans?

Great game last night... well, great towards the end. The Italians looked better IMHO than the Germans. I agree though - it was a classy goal. Actually, both were. In our household we're rooting for France to make it through next... :p

Your favorite Scotch? Your Favorite liquor in general?

That is very true... I've had really bad tuica that tasted like a combination of feet and kerosene :p The worst is the stuff that is made for the tourists though. "Dracula" brand or some nonsense like that. The best I've ever had was made by a friend from Radauti, it was wicked...

Sale at Trickers on Jermyn Street

Thanks! I was looking forward to wearing them today, but my wife's critical eye stopped me dead in my tracks. Seems that they didn't quite match what I was wearing... Colour matching has always been my biggest problem. So - based on those colours... Do they need to match your...

Your favorite Scotch? Your Favorite liquor in general?

Absinthe is one of my fave tipples. I like vodka, but not the high faluting fancy pants types. I'm a Stolichnaya man myself. Nothing else will do. My fave Irish whiskey is Redbreast. A lot of people look down on Paddys, but I enjoy it. It is not expensive in the least and is very...

    The Martini

Wow - some interesting opinions there! Up until recently I was a man of simple tastes (in regards to drinks). Vodka - straight, absinthe, a fave whiskey or two and that was about it. I found the martini most enjoyable. Only recently have I embarked upon journey into the world of the...

    Perfectly shaped fedoras

Interesting thread - I'll have to check out the "Road to Perdition" DVD to see that section on the wardrobe. I recently received a hat back from Art (who did a superb job at restoring it), a vintage Borsalino. The felt is so thin, soft and fine that it is constantly changing shape. Once can...
