I own it and watched it once and loved it. The weird thing is, the book it was based on (by Evelyn Waugh) was dedicated to the wife of Oswald Mosley. That's kind of freaky.
1. Correct: as I very, very clearly wrote, I "was not exactly invited to join per se, but invited to a dinner that was a membership drive." You do not need to "correct" something that I already corrected myself in my original post.
2. I do not believe in a supreme being.
3. They also...
Beautiful pics, Marc. Thanks.
Now, how can I find socks like that? Does ANYONE make them today? Anything? Links would be appreciated. I'd pay decent money for socks like that.
My knowledge of these things is too poor to comment on the sleeves and the back-to-front ratio; but what hits me is that you want more of an hourglass waist on the jacket (upon which I see you have already commented).
I like seeing you in it, but I don't think I personally would do it. For me, it is too much pattern-clash. I'd wear a solid coat with the rest of the ensemble: a burgundy if possible.
But you still look great -- don't get me wrong.
Not to sound too ad hominem, but ...
I do not wish to state my general opinon of the majority of the posters on Styleforum as said opinion might be considered slanderous.
I am SORELY tempted, John! Had such a ball on Sunday at the Cicada. SORELY.
Laura/Lejla: we gotta meet soon ... it has almost happened so many times ...
Skeet -- GREAT story (and beautifully written). Please do not think you are boring anyone here! Nicely described vignette.
Chasseur -- good luck, and those tailors certainly look like nice people.
Keep us posted!
A whole different issue but: there are always situations in which you do want to convey a certain look, and don't want to convey another certain look. There are street corners I walk by where groups of thuggish young men hang out, and certain annoying things could conceivably be said by them...
1. Where is Lovecraft's grave?
2. I was invited to join the Oddfellows. Well, not exactly invited to join per se, but invited to a dinner that was a membership drive. A friend of mine is a member. They have a headquarters on Alameda Island. It's an old storefront and looks to be very cool...
I have one pink dress shirt that looks especially good with my slighly big early 1940s gray tweed DB suit and a burgundy late 1930s (I think) tie with a white seaweed motif. No "homo" or "sissy" comments have been heard (by me, at least).
I also wear it with very dark blue trousers from...
Club Deluxe Bloody Mary
On Haight Street in San Francisco is Club Deluxe, the epicenter of the swing revival scene of the 1990s. In the early 1990s when I first used to go there, their bloody mary was $3.50. It was served in a pint glass. It had the following garnishes floating in it:
1.) A...
That should be the motto for a lot of us!
You're a young fellow, and as time goes by, no doubt you will slowly find more and more authentic stuff. The more garage sales, the more trades, the more odd things in thrift shops and antique shops, the better and better your collection will become...
