If only I knew about this web site a few years ago.:eusa_doh: I shopped at Worth & Worth and JJ Hat center for quite a number of years before I realized that I could find excellent quality hats elsewhere for less. Had I known about vintage hats back then I would not own more than half of the...
You are absolutely correct. The one in the photo is the inexpensive (less than $500) replacement for the hat that I sold. This one, while nice enough, looked quite coarse beside the other. I don't have any photos of the old hat which was brought back from Montecristi in the late 1950's -...
Down to my last straw
This is the last of my straws. I sold one to a collector while in JJ Hat Center a couple years ago - the price was just too good to resist. I've recently learned why - a similar quality hat these days has to be specially commissioned by one of the few remaining weaving...
Those are wonderful robes. The only others I have liked more were the old silk lined cashmere robes at Sulka which had some of the details you might find on a smoking jacket. Back when cashmere robes were a heavy fabric more like a topcoat than a sweater.
I bought a sweater like that at the opening of the RL mansion on Madison Ave in NYC. But it was navy with several colored stripes. It disappeared when I fell asleep on the ferry one day. I keep hoping to find one like it on eBay or in a thrift shop.
Saint Patrick was a gentleman,
Who through strategy and stealth,
Drove all the snakes from Ireland,
Here’s a toasting to his health.
But not too many toastings
Lest you lose yourself and then
Forget the good Saint Patrick
And see all those snakes again.

If memory serves -history lessons, I'm not really that old - the rules for dress and behaviour in 19th century New York were adhered to more rigidly than in the societies they sought to emulate. Washington Square by Henry James gives us glimpse.
Carebear - not the greatest photo, new camera and my first digital so I'm having trouble with close shots... The first is mine, an older Baby made at FN. The ivory grips that were in the box need repair so the factory grips are back. The second is the FN that I would like to find / afford...
I really like Fabrique National. For a really nice pocket gun, fits in the waistcoat of my vintage tails, I have an engraved an nickel plated Browning Baby. It's quite a bit lighter than my Seecamp. I'm a little guy so nothing more than a single stack for these hands. The 1911 is my overall...
The felt color is Sahara and the ribbon is dark mocha. I took the dog for an extra walk just for the opportunity to wear it again.
Oops. Art I hadn't seen your message when I posted this reply.
Wingnut, thanks.
:offtopic: Once upon a time, before glasses, when I still had some free time and lived near a good range I was "on paper" at 1000 yards with my .300 Phoenix and .300 Win Mag. But sadly, the reloaders and the rifles have been sold...
