    "It isn't a @*$%> cowboy hat"

Ah, I've no beef with cowboy hats. They're not my particular style, but at least they are hats! Some people look good in them, however I am not one of them. When I was but a wee lad I had a white cowboy hat, I uesta pretend that I was the Lone Ranger. :p

Aha - so there was a Hurricane as well!!! I thought that one of the Spits looked a bit different! :)

    Spitfire sighting

I was in Brighton on Sunday, strolling along the beach with my wife, when I suddenly heard the unmistakable sound of Merlin engines. I looked up, and saw three Spitfires, about 1000 feet up, flying parallel with the beach! I certainly didn't expect to see that! About an hour later, I...

    "It isn't a @*$%> cowboy hat"

Some people are just ignorant I guess... It is hard to believe that just by wearing a hat that they are provoked into making stupid comments. They must be very insecure. I wouldn't mind having the six-shooters though. I'm sure that they would discourage some of the more annoying types.

    "It isn't a @*$%> cowboy hat"

Usually I wear my lids and get very few comments. The few that I get are mostly positive in any event. However... I've been wearing an Open Road lately, and I'm amazed at how many "cowboy" comments I get. "yeehaw" "Hey Cowboy" "The sherriff is in town" "Were you in Bareback...

    Stetson Flagship

The band on my Open Road was just like that. Out of the box, it looked new. I moistened it with some leather treatment (Lexap), let it dry and tried it on... Bad move - the band ripped like old cardboard. It then proceeded to crack and crumble. I sent it to Art and he gave it a new...

    'Das Boot' Jacket

Nice coat Pat. Where was the retro shop - on the other side the arcade off of South Great Georges Street? I remember one there, near a bakery and a bead shop. I think it is called "Fade Street" or something. They didn't have anything in my size when I went in tho'... By the way -...

    Hollywoodland

I saw a preview for this film and actually thought that aul Ben looked pretty good... ahem, in a manly way. It was the scene where some kids saw him smoking. The suit looked neat, I dug the thin belt. Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I like Ben Affleck as an actor. He was good in the...

    Golden Era Post Offices

We lived in a town on Long Island, NY for a time... the post office there was lovely. I was told that it was created as part of one of FDR's make-work programs. I uesta love going in there... felt like I was stepping back in time.

    Help for picking fountain pens

My father introduced me to fountain pens. He has wonderful writing, and would offer custom writing in calligraphy (signs, documents etc) when I was a kid. In spite of my awful handwriting, I really like fountain pens. What I look for in one is something that is ascetically pleasing, yet is...

    The Victory of Communism!

I'm sure that this was posted tongue-in-cheek, but communism is more than just a classless society. The US has a loooooong way to go before it can be considered a communist state. As a matter of fact, I don't know if there has ever been a pure communist state. What we saw in Eastern...

Another pet peeve... mobiles playing music w/o headphones

Time for another whinge... Why do people feel compelled nowadays to "share" their music with everyone, courtesy of the tinny speaker on their mobile? Surely if these eejits can afford a mobile phone, they can get the headphones that go along with it? To top it off, it sounds even worse when...

Smokers and non smokers, what do you do, what do you think?

While not a smoker, and not a fan of smoking, I wouldn't vote for an all-out ban on the passtime. As one of our fellow Loungers pointed out, alcohol can be detrimental to one's health but is still legal. That being said - I'm still not enamoured of having to breathe someone else's smoke.

    Wedding Superstitions

In Romania, if it rains on the wedding day it means that you'll do well financially in the future. When we got married it was 45C and sunny. [huh] That being said, I never heard anyone say if it is sunny you'll be poor. ;) It is also considered bad luck for a bride to see any other...

Smokers and non smokers, what do you do, what do you think?

Both my parents smoked like chimneys when I was growing up. I remember walking up and the house would be a blue haze - like living in a pub. Oddly enough, I never smoked. I tried a few times when out with the lads, but I invariably felt awful the next day. I wish they'd get their act...

How to Ruin a Perfectly Good Suit

I agree with the above observations, and I think there is one more that needs to be added - wearing of a backpack/rucksack with a suit. I often see men that have splashed out on a nice suit, only to have it crumpled and rumpled under the weight of a big aul backpack. I know that many jobs...

    The Black Dahlia

I saw the posters for the film here in the Tube. Scarlett looks wonderful, as usual. I don't like yer man Josh. I agree with you all that his look is all wrong for the film. For some strange reason he reminds me of George W. Bush... I think it is the facial expression. That alone...
