I agree... it's just an eighth! My Art hat is a 2.5" brim with a bound edge, and it looks spectacular. I have the posts from many folks here to prove it!

Flagg!
I collect comic, comic strip, and illustration original art. The wife graciously lets me hang something nice outside my studio from time to time. This James Montogomery Flagg painting hangs in our living room. As memory serves, this was done for Good Housekeeping in 1933 or so.

Stetson OR Style- Clear Beaver 7X
I posted over in the ebay thread when I won this one.
I didn't post it here until tonight because I wanted to do some work on it. It was very clean, but I did want to dunk it to reshape and stretch it just a bit. I finally got that done, and I really love...
Essay Link
Someone asked for this, and I figured I should just turn it into a pages that people could access easily.
So... here you go: http://www.andeparks.com/touch_of_evil.htm
Best,
Anj
I've been using a combination of J.T. and Bud's methods. I soak the hat, and then let it dry with the long ovalizing stick or dowel in place. I leave it with the stick in for a few hours, then wear it awhile, then back to the stick, etc..

Yay!
A very good hat movie, and one of my favorite films. I wrote an essay about it last year for the back of Ed Brubaker's (he's the guy famous for killing Captain America last year) Criminal book. If anyone wants a copy of my essay, you can PM me.
Orson looks great in that OR... you...
I rarely get the Indiana Jones comments... I'm sure I'll get more after the film, but it doesn't really bother me.
The way I see it, the more popular the film is, the more popular fedoras will become. The more popular fedoras become, the more quality options I hope we'll have in modern hats...
Celebrities have a lot of influence on popular fashion, and why not? Most of them dedicate lots of time to how they look, and have some degree of professional help in that department.
In my case, I can't point to any celeb leading me to fedoras, but I do get a kick out of seeing someone in...
Stetson Clear Beaver 7X Won
Just won this one, and that is good news for my fellow melonheads. Once this thing arrives, and I get a good look at the color, something else from my collection is going to have to go to make room for it.

Portis
Don't know about the ribbon yet. I just bought it, and it won't be delivered until next week.
Alan, if the hat doesn't seem workable for me when it arrives, I'll let you know.
Anj
Dunking a hat that fits pretty well, aside from the long oval part, and then wearing it off and on as it dries, will often result in a much better fit.
Anj
I was going to ask you about the wide oval, but the hat looked soft enough that it might work regardless.
I just bought this one . No... I probably didn't need another brown fedora, but I can't resist these damn buy it nows! Plus, I don't own a Portis.
I will have to stretch this...
Miller!
Why didn't I think of Miller?! Great tip, Rick... thanks! I like this one a little better, with the stingier brim. I'm gonna give them a call Monday.
Good tip on the Akubra, too, Alan. That's something to keep in mind.
Yeah... I have made my share of trips to the Little...
CHAMP Spaceweight
I just grabbed this one. As you can see, it's a project hat. I bought it because of the size (which I hope is accurate), and because the liner looked so clean. I can deal with cleaning and shaping.
So, anyone ever heard of a "Spaceweight" felt before? I would assume...
