Just grazing, but when I was a grocery clerk we used to use hairspray to remove marking pens & other ink. Cheap stuff works best, like Rave pressurized cans. It may take a few applications & blotting. I haven't tried this on felt, but it worked wonders on white cotton blend shirts. -

I've looked this up. It is my belief the term refers to the roll of the brim. I do not have the old ads at my fingertips, but one of them features Humphrey Bogart in a "Lancer" model I've never been able to find. -
