    The 3X Mess Hall

First Stetson 3X I've just purchased my first Stetson 3X. I've been looking for a new light brown or tan hat for some time and couldn't resist. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330169112985

Lock & Co. cap - just won

Cookie, I don't think I've seen caps selling for that much before. I know prices on Borsalino fedoras, trilbys, etc. have really gone up but who knew?

Lock & Co. cap - just won

Ande, I think you would be surprised. There are a wide variety of caps that can be quite deep in the back and, like newsboys / 8 panel caps, much wider if that is your preference. I've seen some very substantial gentlemen several hat sizes larger than myself wearing some very flattering caps...

Lock & Co. cap - just won

I really like several of the Locke & Co. hats and some of their country clothing but their prices are a bit high. I am debating whether to buy my smoking cap from Lock & Co. or from Turnbull & Asser who carry more fabrics. I couldn't pass on this hat even if the seller couldn't give a hat...

Lock & Co. cap - just won

I took a chance on this Lock & Co. cap - the size was uncertain and the colors not what I might usually choose. I arrived over the weekend and I am quite pleasantly surprised. The colors are slightly more subtle than in the photo and, best of all, it fits wonderfully. It is probably my most...

    Aglets and you

I'm still working on how we came to assess people based on the quality and condition of their shoes... I'm not certain what several pairs of good quality shoes in need of a trip to AE for reconditioning says about me other than a need to add more shoes to the rotation. As for aiglets, hmmm...

Why doesn't anyone stop this madness?

Unfortunately this is one of the great losses for NYC it took get organizations like the Municipal Art Society noticed and helped give the Landmarks Preservation Commission some teeth. Grand Central was on the block as well and took arguments before the Supreme Court of the United States to...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

We just watched Memoirs of a Geisha over the weekend. Last weekend was House of Flying Daggers and Hero. In addition to the beautiful cinematography, we really admire the use of fabrics and the combination of patterns in the costumes.

Why doesn't anyone stop this madness?

It really is too bad that historic preservation is such a challenge. I was not until the late 1980s that architecutre schools had historic preservation as part of their curriculum and, later still before it was a core concentration. Some few organizations have been quite successful however...

    Poirot's Style

Does anyone know about Poirot's hat in Murder in Messopotamia? He has what appears to be a Homburg made of straw. I do like some of his suits, and the combinations of jacket and vest with contrasting pants, etc. However, the overall image can be a bit overdone for modern tastes...

    Dita supports PETA

I would agree that for most pet owners and most pets spay/neuter is the best course of action - when your pet is physically mature. This will vary by size, breed, etc.

    What Are You Reading

    Dita supports PETA

There is much I would like to say about this campaign and this organization but let's avoid the contentious political rant. Although I have been a Dita fan I've just lost interest. Amicus usque ad aras.

    What's your favourite season?

I enjoy all four seasons for their variety however, I think my favourite season is just after the renters clear out just after labor day. The water is still warm, the beaches are empty and the weather is generally in the 70s and less humid. Until it get down below 50 again, this is near...

    Opera, anyone?

That is quite a challenge. One of the rare and much valued talents of the best are their vocal range and many popular operas put them to the test. Perhaps some of the older baroque operas (pre-Mozart) would fit the bill? They tended to be less challenging, they had not begun to combine...

Out of the Humidor: Weekly Cigar Corner: Current Discussion: General Smoking 01/26/07

Do any of you have contact information or links for Vigilant? Our club is looking for a large humidor, preferably with several separate compartments to hold member and club cigars. There used to be a cabinet maker in Long Island who specialized in built-in wine cellars and humidors...

    Fred Astaire vs Cary Grant

I've been debating and still can't come to a decision. I read a comment somewhere that Cary Grant was the perfect manequin - tall, broad shouldered and quite fit. As the old saw goes, I guess I might want to be Cary Grant, but fate and genetics decided otherwise. I am built more like Astaire...
