Is it turning ivory all over in an even manner or is is it changing color in certain areas like the top of the crown? Mine started to take on a light toast mostly on the top of the teardrop bash. Not sure if its from sun or sweat or both.
Can you tell me anything about this razor?
After having my first hot lather straight razor shave last week in Chelsea at Uriel's I'm hooked. Even though he used one of the faux razors with the disposable blade the experience and quality of the shave was an epiphany.
Yesterday, just by...
Ok, I'm addicted! I was in Manhattan today and could not resist another visit to Uriel's to have Gabe give me a straight shave. BUT, this time Uriel took a break and serenaded me with great Klezemer style music on his clarinet. This shop is simply a gem...check out the video my wife shot on...

I love the Fedora Lounge! After discovering it a year ago it has had a profound impact on my life and style. In a short period of time I've discovered the joys of Fedora's(felt & straw), started wearing double breasted suits, get shoe shines when ever and where...
I just broke out my Montecristi for the warm weather and forgot how light and airy it is. I normally take my felt off when I open my wineshop but I keep my PB on all day now. Somebody peel me a grape!
Found this ad from October 1937, A merry-go-round shine stand that allows eight customers to get a shine in an assembly line manner. Has anyone seen an actual photo of this device
Kudos to Jetblue at JFK, their new Terminal 5 (behind the old TWA building) sports a professional shine stand staffed by folks trained by the A Shine Co of SF. Reports are that they do a top notch job.

Great pic! He's right up there with Sean Connery in the Louis Vuitton ad. Great thing about these guys is that they give me(all of us really) hope that I can still look "cool" decades from now in my PB Montecristi.
Agreed, Max spent at least 10 minutes on my shoes(maybe 15) so the most he could squeeze in would be about 5 shines per hour on a good day. I don't know what arrangement he has with Nordstrom's but I would think the tips account for a big chunk of his income. I'd give more if that were the...
How much is a good tip?
Looks great Tomasso, I put it in my address book for the day I ever get there.
Question to all...what is a good tip for a shiner? I've been doubling the posted price. Max charges $2.50 and I gave him $5...should I have given more?
First let me make a correction from the original post, his name is Maximo and not Mario. Went to him for a shine today and snapped a shot of him working on a gentleman' s wingtips(BTW this guy lives in Chicago but for the last 10 years brings his shoes with him on business trips to let Max...
