'Imperator'
Presumably German, liner missing (traces of glue), only stamped 'Imperator' and T.W. (initials) on the very soft and supple sweatband. Very nice felt indeed, not thin but very light and flexible - a new bash every time you handle it! Puts my two vintage Borsos to shame; the only...
Watch this space!
According to the salesperson, there is another whole batch of hats from the same source (Amsterdam) still due to be priced and put out on display. So needless to say I'll be popping in to the shops regularly over the next few weeks.
Will also post details of the ones I did...
Assorted hats - some of the ones I didn't buy!
Various hats from the recently found batch at a local vintage clothing shop. Sorry about the poor photos, as well as the generally crumpled state of the hats. They were pretty much just all crumpled up together, and quite a few with liners...
Thanks, Hatophile. I couldn't just let it sit there looking so forlorn, and it possibly end up as a fancy dress hat for somebody who doesn't know one end of a hat from another - I just had to give it a caring home.;)
I love the idea of my son, who's now 10, having access to nice stuff (he has...
Eleganter Sporthut
Part of a recent haul from a local vintage clothing shop. Probably German, looks 30's-ish, to me at least. A fair bit of mothing, but still quite wearable - for the right person! At 55cm, it's a bit too small for me, alas.....:(
More details in German and Austrian hats...
Eleganter Sporthut
I couldn't resist..... A mystery 'long-ish hair' hat that I picked up from among the recent load of German and Austrian hats. Very soft felt, but rather mothed. Most obvious bald patches are on top of the crown where it doesn't really get seen, and at the base of the...
Hi MW,
Seemed to want to take a standard-ish teardrop, so I suspect it's either lived in that shape for a long time or else it was originally factory blocked. I returned it to open crown for cleaning and steaming, but couldn't remove all the original crease marks. Fortunately, not too...
'Meteor' - Hermann von Heesen (Bochum)
Picked this one up yeserday from a bunch of hats that appeared in a local vintage clothing shop. Hermann von Heesen (Bochum) seems to be a clothier/outfitters in Germany.
No paper labels under sweat, apart from a simple '58' size tag. Stamped 'Meteor'...

Will try to get some time over the next couple of days to go back and check through them again, and will try also to get some photos. Didn't have much time today, so only managed to get an overview. Did buy one fedora (charcoal gray with silver mid-width ribbon and narrow edge binding, Herm...
Alert: Lots of German and Austrian hats on sale in Edinburgh (Scotland).
For anyone in or around Edinburgh (Scotland) who may like German or Austrian hats, Armstrongs - the vintage clothing shop in the Grassmarket and also the branch in Clerk Street, have a fresh load of these hats. About 20...
