Necro post to so some developments...
So it was pretty obvious that this jacket was too small for me. So I went to Peter at Wested to make a repro for me. I picked out a leather liked and asked them to do it minus the side elastic and 'D' welt on the pockets.
The original one for comparison...
Not quite, leathers can be skived down, (the extra material is removed from the flesh side) so you can have thin steer and horse. It just has to be specced that way.
How i understand it. You have 2 type of sales tax. One levied by your State and one levied by the National Government, no? When you buy across state boundaries you can avoid State sales tax, no? Please explain if I have misunderstood.
Is this not the model you are trying to apply to Eastman and...
On the subject of prices not increasing when VAT rates are increased. The Govt are very savvy at this, they only increase VAT in small amounts over a long period. We went from 10% to 12.5% to 15% to 17.5%... back down to 15% back up to 17.5% and now up to 20% (this is over a period of something...
The reply from Aero seems be: The price is he same where ever you buy it from. The VAT is a local issue specific to the UK, we pay the VAT for the UK market out of our own pocket due to market weakness in the UK.
I'm quite glad that my initial interpretation of the situation is spot on to how both Aero and ELC see it. The END PRICE in Europe is identical to the END PRICE in the US. EXCEPT in the UK both companies lose X amount to the government in VAT when selling to a UK buyer. That is what they mean by...
I wish I could find the ruling against McDonald's from a few years ago. They were specifically instructed that the way they were showing the, then newly instigated, 10%! VAT on fast food was illegal.
The listing from HMRC shows that the VAT inclusive amount must take precedence, obviously to...
Stuff like computer equipment is an exception. Theoretically are expected to be business-to-business sales so the VAT usually can be reclaimed.

Ok, so they can show the VAT as a separate line in the receipt but ensure that it is...
I notice that this only happens occasionally.
The Federal Sales Tax to the US Govt.
If an item arrives in the UK from the US. Technically we should pay 20% VAT on it to the govt + import duty.
Pragmatically, I see suggest that Aero and Eastman bite the bullet and then instigate a VAT...
The company took a little while to work out what the issue was and then eventually didn't charge the sales tax. (however, I suspect that due to the trouble and paper work involved they probably just swallowed it anyway.)
I had the "5 x" company send the jacket to a US friend, the sales tax +...
In addition, one US based company attempted to charge me sales tax when I was ordering a jacket from the EU.... because I was paying with AMERICAN EXPRESS!!
And then there is another that boldfacedly charges "5 x US shipping" to "foreign" customers. (This means $100 for a jacket... when it...
That's the thing the foreign purchaser isn't paying any more than the domestic one. It's just that the extra isn't going to the government.
....
The other possibility... and it's a small possibility, as I expect the turnovers of both these companies is above £77,000. If their turnover is below...
This is a result of the way VAT is buried in the price of the items in countries such as the UK and other EU countries. The retailer is actually not permitted to show the pre-VAT price and tax separately.
The 'Government's' argument is that the customer might mistake the pre VAT price for the...
Essentially, with any international order you should be paying at least sales tax/vat. If you get by without paying you've been lucky. The sting is the high 'brokerage' fee the couriers charge.
If you could 'declare' the item and get charged the normal sales tax/vat and not get a brokerage fee...
That's easy for you to say you're at 30%
They are cutting all our welfare, hospitals and schools. But increasing the tax, yet bail out the banks. Yup, it's all messed up.
