I'm not Phaedrus - I'm the guy who rides the BMW but doesn't wrench very well:D However, I CAN adjust the valves by the side of the road if needed! Oh, and I can change the fluids...
Reading the last few posts made me think of Robert Pirsig of "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" having a mental break with reality after deeply pondering the meaning of quality. We all know quality, but when you attempt to define it...
Enjoying the discussion. I see they used to...
SteveAS, I really like your black beauty. I have never been in the market for a black hat, but if I were that one would be right up my alley.
Alan, I've never particularly been a fan of optimo panamas, but you sure wear that one well.
I'm continually surprised by the hats that show up here!
Josh, I got a Johnnyphi Royalist. It's a brown lid with an interesting ribbon color that looks the same as the hat but is somehow different and complimentary. The only other difference I can see is my hat has a brown sweat. I find the felt to be like clay. Moldable and able to hold about any...
By the way, if any of you haven't seen them there are some great panama threads in the archives. If my name was Lefty or Buler or rlk, I'd have the links handy for you:)
Dan, from what I've read in panama posts and links, the absolute finest weavers are men. Googling will produce some...

Tongue in cheek, but we all know there's a marketing component involved so I think JtL's treatise is meaningful in that we have the perceptions of a guy who's handled a few lids in his day! Thanks for...
Additionally, it hasn't been said but I'm sure everyone is aware not just registered members read this forum. Unregistered lurkers are lurking about as well, waiting to snap up our beloved vintage lids. Take heed!!
Listen Warbird, who knows what will happen when you get there. I just wanted to point out we can't be your alibi in case that's what you were going for.
Mr. Cumberworth:
If that is your first wide-brimmed hat, it may well be all downhill from here. That is positively Pavlovian in its ability to make a hatophiliac salivate! Beautiful Mallory, and believe it or not, it looks great on your noggin. Congratulations!
At first glance I think I would have tried snapping the brim down if it were mine, but rlk's ad showing the Ambassador gave me second thoughts. I bet it will look great worn smartly "off the face" as the ad copy stated. Nice hat Alan.
